My Mood: Points: 1,425.54 Bank: 520.20 Total Points: 1,945.74 | I started Met gradually also...1st week 500mg, 2 weeks of 1,000mg, and then 1,500mg. Once I started the 1000mg I got sick and when I brought it mg's up again it got worse and even took some time off of work. I was nauseous all the time and had diarrhea.
The water helps...when I don't drink water the medication makes me really nauseous.
Oh and Katie W...I agree with the ground beef thing...for some reason I can't even smell it...it makes we want to puke.

Nausea caused by: coffee, any kind of fizzy drink, broccoli, some types of salad
Typical diet day is:
Brk: Porridge made with water and with dried apricots
Lunch: Count on Us wrap with small bag of crisps and apple
Snack: Chocolate peanuts
Dinner: Fish and granary bread, low fat yog
Lots and lots of emergency loo trips. Weight seems to be staying the same, which is upsetting :-( Lost a few llbs last week, but none so far this week... |

I ALWAYS crave carbs! And it's always the worst at night for some reason. I love sitting down with my husband after a long day and having a glass of wine. So far, I've been able to enjoy it without the stomach issues, but it sure goes to my head alot quicker!
I take my dose of met with lunch b/c that is the most consistent time for me and the meal that I eat the most at. I get off of work @ 3:15 every day, which is a good thing b/c by then my stomach is starting to get rumbly. I just hope that when I go up to 1500 mgs next week that I am able to keep down what I eat--probably will have to give up the vino though

My Mood: Points: 5,031.76 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 5,031.76 | I'm not on XR, and it's so weird how my stomach 'issues' (or 'suddenness' as I now call it!!) change - first week of Met it was the morning, second was the evening...now it's the afternoon!!
I had a baaaaaaaaaaad night after drinking alcohol, that said, I did have a lot of fatty food that night, too. I've had a couple of glasses of wine since, and been ok.
My carb craving is also worse at night...but little by little, my chocolate addiction seems to be waning. Or that could be the utterly vile taste in my mouth! I've also learned the art of getting full - and that's just amazing! |

My Mood: Points: 1,123.64 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,123.64 | I just picked up a few of those little mini-cookbooks that they have by the register @ the grocery store. One of them is a diabetic one and it has a lot of really good ideas for snacky-type things. Right now I'm drinking a raspberry/chocolate smoothie made from chocolate soymilk and frozen raspberries. It's pretty tasty and satisfies my craving for sweets in the afternoon. Perhaps later I'll add a little "something" to it to jazz it up a notch...

Points: 143.50 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 143.50 | Hi all
I am new to the site...signed up month or so ago to read info but found myself wanting to reply cause i had never met sooo many women that had experienced (or even knew) what pcos was...diagnosed 2003 but experienced first symptoms in 1998... anyway long story short
in 2003 took met for 6 months then had a very weird experience with low blood sugar (in the 60's) my doc said it was cause of my eating habits but it really scared me so went off. (plus all of the stomach upset, and i just dont like the stupid pills )
started weight watchers and lost 40 lbs (yeah!)
and was able to concieve my daughter without meds but now i am unable to lose baby weight and my doc said should go back on...
will be starting met 1000 mg twice a day...
will keep you posted...
Oh, but i do have a question...i just read on a google site that women have been reporting increased hair loss with met use. Has anyone else heard of this? (i dont remember experiencing this the first time) |

My Mood: Points: 115.57 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 115.57 | Been taken Met 2000mg since 2002 I've found that as long as I take my Metformin at the same time everyday, my digestive tract is pretty normal. If I taken it at dramatically different time or skip a dose, I have cramps, diahrrea, etc. I'm on Metformin ER 2000mg a day. I take it all right before bed since it's just easier to remember that way from me. I've also had luck taking 1000mg at night and 1000mg in the morning.
With Met, I concieved both of my daughters, and I have "normal" length cycles. Without it, I can go a year without a period.... |

My Mood: Points: 1,123.64 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,123.64 | My doc suggested to me that i should set my cell phone alarm to go off @ the same time every day so I remember to take my pills. I set it for 12:15pm. That's lunchtime for me during the week (I teach 3 yr. olds) and during the weekend it's a time where I'm not usually too busy. My mornings and evenings are so inconsistent that I know I would forget for sure--when i was on BC I forgot ALL the time.
polarprincess: are you taking the extended release pills? They're nice b/c you only have to remember to take them ONCE vs. twice a day.

I get the muscle cramps really badly while on met. It starts on about the 3rd day like clockwork... calf cramp in the middle of the night. I'll get them 3-5 times a night, worst that I've ever had in my life! Then, it migrates to other muscles. I start getting them in strange places, like my arm muscles, back, stomach muscles, even my toes and my neck! It usually happens when I'm straining to lift something, pressing on the break pedal to drive (scary thought huh?), or stretching in the morning. It's not like general aches and crampiness. It's like you look down and the muscle has become a rock hard knot that you can't move for several seconds to a minute. Hurts like !#@$!
Apparantly it's kinda common. Here's what my doc told me to do... Take a good quality calcium supplement with magnesium, I get mine from GNC. Plenty of fluids too.
I had always thought that when you get a cramp, it meant you needed potassium and you should eat bananas. Not necessarily! | thanks for the tip! im on 1500/day and my first few days were more digestion issues butnot too bad... those have pretty much disappeared (although it may be because im not eating as much due to low appetite)... anyway so the muscle aches i am facing. it mightbe partly due tothe gym but i think part of it is the meds... in my calfs and a lil bit near my hips.. not severe - just discomfort... using a heat pad now but a calcium supplement will be my purchase tomorrow...
although.. i do intake a fair amount of dairy.... :s |

I also have this horrible taste in my mouth, is that due to the Met? I have only been on Met for 2 weeks, and this coming weekend I plan on upping the dose back up to 1000mg since hopefully my system is a little more used to it. I really hope this works! |

My Mood: Points: 1,123.64 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,123.64 | I've only been on Met for a few weeks and was fine till I bumped up to 1500mgs. One thing that helps me alot is always eating yogurt in the morning for bfast. It really aids your digestion--make sure you get the kind with "live cultures" (Activia is awesome!) I ran out of it for a few days b/c I didn't have a chance to get to the grocery store, and for those few days, I was completely miserable--nothing stayed down. I don't have much of an appetite either, but I make sure to eat my yogurt every day!
lividangel: I also have a constant bad taste in my mouth--I"m sure it's from the met. I have no idea of what can help it, but if I find out I'll let you know!

My Mood: Points: 27,757.03 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 27,757.03 | Hi girls
I started on 500mg xr last night. Took it after dinner, few hours before bed. Was ok last night, except for very drowsy.
This morning, had my breakfast (cereal) and from then on I ran to the toilet every few minutes for a few hours .... ergghh. I didnt eat anything else all day until I just had dinner (chicken and veggie stirfry with steamed rice).
Will see how I go in the morning but I'm not going to stress too much I guess it will be what it will be. Will try the yoghurt tip though. I soooo hope this helps me drop weight!!!!!!
