I'm on day 5 of met and I was doing very well until yesterday. I ate a sandwich from Quisnos and had bad potty problems all day. I have noticed that salads seem to bother most but for me so far I've noticed that it doesn't bother me at all. I'm thinking that it is different for everyone. Just have to figure out what works best for you. |

My Mood: Points: 445.09 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 445.09 | I am restarting my met for what is probably the 4th or 5th time. I'm nearly a month in. I have always had almost every side effect there is to have with the stuff. This time is a bit better though. I am still sick, but it is not nearly as bad as it has been in the past on met. I also have to work on quitting smoking, so I am on Zyban as well as the met. That being the only thing different from what I was doing before when taking it I believe that the zyban is having a side effect of making the met side effects not as bad. My doc said it very well could be. I've experimented a little and I know that on days when I don't take my zyban I feel worse. So, any of you who can talk your doc into giving you zyban might want to give it a shot, especially if you need to drop the cigarettes anyhow. |

My Mood: Points: 1,443.33 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,443.33 | The only problems I have while taking the Metformin (which I've started back on within the past month) is massive diarrhea. I've learned that I have to take the XR kind and it's not AS bad but I still have it happen. I'm currently on 500mg of Met and I'm going to try to slowly increase and get myself up to 2000mg. I've just had to make sure I have my anti-diarrhea pills in my purse where ever I go to make sure I'm not stuck in a bathroom somewhere for hours. I've since come off of my birth control pill and I'm hoping that the metformin will regulate my cycle and I'll start having periods again as I did when I was on the BCP's. One thing that I love about the Metformin, is that even with the 500mg dosage once a day, I can tell a difference. I'm not craving the sweet bad foods I was before and it helps to curve my appetite. That's nice

I do have a cough, though, and I'm trying to figure out if it is from the Met or the Yaz that I recently started. From researching I am thinking perhaps it mgiht be the Yaz? If anyone has experience with this LMK! Thanks! It's like an allergy cough, not one from a cold or anything. It feels different. |

My Mood: Points: 177.05 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 177.05 | Hi Everyone,
I am new to this site and newly diagnosed (after I couldn't lose the weight after having a baby). I also have Type 1 diabetes, so I have been prescribed metformin at a really low dose initally (started at 250 mg per day for the first week and I am now up to 500 mg per day). I have been feeling really "out of it" and dizzy. Is that normal? Has anyone else experienced this? It is only my second week taking Metformin and I am having a huge improvement in my sugar levels (which were out of control).
Thanks everyone. This website has been extremely helpful and I am so glad I found it!!

I have been on MET for a little bit over a month now and I am STILL extremely tired every single day after work, I don't feel like doing anything once I get home and I hate it!! I heard that if you take Vitamin B12 it is supposed to help, I think I might give it a try!
And, Does anyone experience dizziness along with the upset stomach and tiredness? I can't eat anything with sugar or white flour unless I am willing to pay!

My Mood: Points: 1,916.13 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 1,916.13 | Hi, I am on Day 5 of my Met and started the 1000 mgs yesterday. I thought I was doing really well with the 500mgs. Honestly, I had one episode of *d* and then since then have been constipated. I actually tried eating bad foods hoping the met would kick in and help solve my problem.
So the 1000 mgs- what can I say? I took the dose at bedtime after dinner last night without a problem- I felt great. But this morning, after I ate some whole wheat crackers and monteray jack cheese, OMG I am so nauseous. I was eating that daily on the 500 mgs because it was helping what little upset stomach I had, but now it's making me feel worse than ever. I guess I'm going to stop eating that in the AM. I had half a bagel for lunch (wheat) and still feel really sick.
For the women talking about tiredness and low energy- please try a B complex vitamin or just B12. I actually know during the day when I am ready for a dose- around 12-1 pm. I end up sleepy and unmotivated, but I take the B12 and it's like a pure energy shot. I even recommend it for women NOT on Metformin. Take the B-12 even if you don't feel sluggish. It is truly amazing how much of a difference it makes.
