Angry Potassium problems?

Does anybody here have a potassium problem? I have Gitleman's disease which basically means I can't hold on to my potassium. And if anything was ever convenient about any of this, it's that the prescribed medication for it is Spiro, which is also prescribed for my hair and skin problems. Now, the Spiro is to hold on to the potassium supplements that I am also taking. My issue here is that I take 4 potassium pills a day and it causes this really terrible gas/intestinal problems, sometimes constipation, and sometimes diarrhea, but always cramps. My doctor's say that after being on the Spiro for a while, they might be able to cut me back on the potassium and I was wondering if anyone else has ever had this problem and were able to cut way back on their potassium medication or even cut it out completely? The symptoms from the potassium pills are absolutely ruining my life...it's just extremely embarrassing because not only am I feeling the symptoms, but people can HEAR them because my intestense gurgles as if it was your stomach growling, but people know the difference which is again, really embarrassing.

I don't have Gitleman's, but I was on Spiro for a few months. I actually had to stop because my potassium was too high. The problems I was experiencing increased with the length of time I was on it (at first I was fine), so I bet your potassium will build up too. Which will be a good thing for you!

Good Luck!

I got these from a website. Now, keep in mind, that some of these are very rare but have happened.

Weakness/tiredness

Arm, leg, and muscle cramps

Tingling or numbness

Nausea or vomiting

Abdominal cramping and bloating

Constipation

Palpitations

Frequent urination and thirst

Fainting or low blood pressure

Depression, psychosis, delirium, confusion, hallucinations

I guess the only ones that applied to me were weakness/tiredness, abdominal cramping/bloating, and low blood pressure.

I just got my blood tested today and I get my results tomorrow morning. Cross your fingers for me that my potassium has risen enough that they can cut me back way back on my medication.

My potassium is at a level that I can cut my doses from 4 to 2! I'm so happy about that I want to ultimately be taken off it completely. I'm gonna be increasing my Spiro, so I wonder how they will work out...*crosses fingers*

Now they said they can cut me off completely and see how it is. I'm soooo happy about that!
