Question Potential Florida Private Adoption Questions

So a friend of a friend is pregnant and has stated to others that she wants to give the baby to me and my DH since we are having trouble getting pregnant (apparently her words). Adoption has always been an option for us and we were actually thinking of starting the foster to adopt process at the beginning of next year if the injectibles didn't work. The only reason we have continued treatments is because I do/did want to experience pregnancy if possible however I won't be overly heartbroken if I cannot. What I WILL be heartbroken over is if I never get to be a mom.

Anyway, it is early (she's 4 months pregnant) and I don't even know yet what will happen. What I do know is that this is the woman's 3rd child - the first is cared for by the grandmother, the 2nd she gave physical custody to my friend and supposedly the 3rd she wants to give to me and DH. Right now I just want to explore the what ifs so IF this comes to be then I will have all the info I need to help it happen.

Is anyone familiar with Florida adoption laws? If this does happen, it will be a lawyer facilitated adoption and not an agency adoption. I would still need a home visit completed correct? What else should I be prepared for in the event we all go forward with this? I'm more than ready and willing - just not confirmed with the mother that this is in fact what she wants to do. Also, anyone know the length of time that she would have to change her mind post-placement? I always feel better when I am armed with information on all the potentials no matter which one turns out.

Thanks ladies!

I can't help with FL laws but do know that you will still need a home study done. Can you just call a lawyer to ask some questions. Do an online search on FL adoption laws.

Good luck!

She would have three days, post placement, to change her mind.

You can call Children's Home Society for a home study. You probably want to first speak to your friend and then, secondly, contact an attorney. The counselors at CHS may also be able to help you by suggesting an attorney.

Good luck!

Samantha, thank you so much. I think I will start with a call there after speaking to the potential BM. :-)
