My aunt has pnemonia. They just took her in to the hospital. She has two lung problems she has been suffereing with for years including COPD. She is usually on oxygen and dialysis and has severe diabetes. All these things can add up to difficulty healing from a sickness. She is 77 years old and her mind is still very sharp, but in a lot of pain. My Mom is pretty worried about her sister after visiting with her today. Any prayers would be appreciated.
Small update- I just spoke with my Mom and they are putting my aunt in ICU and treating her for a heart attack as well as the pnemonia. If she doesn't start breathing better soon they are going to do a tracheotomy.
Thank you so much for your prayers! We went to see my aunt last night. She is scared and so weak she could barely talk. I don't think she is going to make it. She is very scared and realizes that things are not looking good. They have confirmed she had a heartattack and has a blood clot. They are not sure where the clot is. She still has the pnemonia and now has a blood infection. They have decided not to put her in ICU agian, she is in a step down area just below the ICU care. Her son is mentally challenged and I dont' think he is going to take this well. It will be up to his sister to take care of him when my aunt passes away. They almost lost her Saturday night, but she began breathing again. The daughters are struggling with what measures to take and what not to take. My aunt is able to say what she wants, but they don't want to scare her by asking her questions like that. They really want guidance and peace about what to do. My aunt is in a lot of pain and her blood pressure is dangerously low, kept that way so that her heart does not give out. Please pray she is relieved from pain and has peace, and for comfort and guiadance for her family. Thank you so much!
We went to see my aunt yesterday. She was very sleepy, but did talk to me some. She still seems very weak. They think she has a hole in her heart, and her heart is beating twice what it should at times.
Today her daughters are meeting with a heart surgeon and infection specialist to discuss if anything can be done, surgery or otherwise. If not I think they will probably move her to pallative care/hospice. At least there they will be able to see her round the clock and she will have a private room that will allow flowers and things from home. Thanks for your prayers!
Jash- I am so sorry to hear the news. I am glad you got to see her and talk to her. Hospice is a great place, they will take good care of her. We chose to have them bring my Dad there once we knew there was no more that could be done for him, I am so glad we made that choice to bring him there, they were so nice to all of us and they treated him very well. I will contine to pray for your aunt and I still pray that God keeps her comfortable. {{HUGS}}
Thank you so much for your continued prayers. Yesterday the docs gave them a few options, none of which had to do with her getting better. They said she could go home (no one with nursing experience or the time to care for her), go to a nursing home, or go to pallative care/hospice. I guess they will decide this week. Only two of the sisters (of all her kids) are going to make the decision I guess. Two of the brothers haven't given any input, and one has not been told she is near death. One sister has decided to leave any decision up to the two other sisters I guess.
I agree hospice is very good as far as the people being caring and very competant. The family has signed a DNR which I think is required for hospice here. They are also leaning toward no respirator, but she is on oxygen 24/7.

I spoke with Mom yesterday and she said the heart doctors cannot do anything, but that my aunt was started on a feeding tube. Her daughters are going to take her home when she is able to be moved and the infection is gone. They are going to each take off a week rotating as long as my aunt lives. Hospice will only come out if she stops receiving kidney treatment, which her daughters have said they are going to continue. I had forgotten if she is moved to hospice or pallative care they will refuse to feed her. I think we are going to visit her tomorrow, so I will update again after that.
Oh, and her youngest son that they were keeping all the info from, has now been told. He got to speak with her on the phone, which made him sadder, but her relieved to hear his voice. They are not going to allow him out of prison to see her, or even to go to the funeral. Her son who is mentally challenged is taking this much better than I thought he would. Again, thank you everyone for your prayers and support.
