Ok, where to start. My DH and I became parents last March. Due to that fact that it was twins, we didnt feel that my going back to work was an option. We figure that by the time we pay daycare, I wouldnt really be bringing home much money. SO.. fast forward to the past 6 months.
My DH owns his own construction company. We have been having problems with the IRS forever and it just seems like he cant make enough money to support us. I dont know what to do, I dont feel like I can really do anything to help. I have looked for a job that I would be able to do from home and still be with the kiddos, but I cant find anything.
We are at the point that we are trying to figure out if Bankruptcy is the right answer. We REALLY dont want to do it, it is a last resort. We are trying to figure out what to do with our house. We owe more on it than we would be able to get for it right now. Our subdivision is an awful place to try to sell a house right now.
I just need prayers. I hate feeling this way and I spend a lot of time crying about it.
I will keep you and your family in my prayers. I know it is very hard to raise a family in today's dollar hungry world! My best friend is going through something similar. One thought--could you possibly tutor kids? I am a teacher and you would not believe how many parents are looking for an outside tutor just to make sure that their son/daughter is getting his/her homework done. I teach high school, but used to work for a supplemental education center where parents were wanting to spend less money with a private tutor (as those centers are VERY expensive!). I know that with the way today's curriculum is designed toward more homework and stress on kids this might be a good way for you to be able to stay at home and earn anywhere from $25 + an hour. I had several offers to outside tutor for $50 an hour. You don't have to be a whiz at anything--a lot of times it is just study skill related stuff like organization, checking, etc. If you have any friends in the school systems, have them help you out. Let me know if this is something you could do and I will help you any way I can.

If you owe the IRS money, they will make monthly payment plans with you. You can even get them to be very low monthly payments. Also, if you file bankruptcy, I am not sure if IRS debts would be included. As much as I hate to recommend this, would your DH make more money in a employee type situation rather than owning his own company?

Thanks for all the prayers and suggestions. I still dont know what we are going to do. I have thought about moving to Michigan to be closer to my family, but from what they tell us there are no jobs there. UGH!!
We are paying the IRS on a monthly installment. We have been doing that FOREVER!!! The lady that we deal with at the IRS is really mean and like to levy our accounts all the time. In fact when my MIL passed away she put a levy on our personal account the same day we were trying to plan a funeral. She was wanting some paperwork before she would let us have access to our money. It was stuff like, the signature card to the business to see who had access to sign checks. Anyway, before we could take care of the funeral we had to scramble and get this stuff together. She pretty much didnt care.
Like I said we will do anything before we would even thing of filing bankruptcy. As far as we are concerned that is not an option. My best friend, who has a ton of money, keeps telling me that is what we need to do and that our credit would be fine in 7 years. I keep telling her that I dont want to do that. UGH!!!
Anyway, thanks for the thoughts and prayers. I really appreciate you guys. It is so hard to go thru this and I feel like it is something that I cant share with my family, so I came here to share it with my "other" family. You guys are the best!!!

There is more than one type of bankruptcy. If you do ever get to the point where you file, please consult a bankruptcy specialist. We did avoid it when DH lost his job, but it was tough and here we are 6 years or so later and finally bouncing back.
Just wanted to bring you all up to date on what is going on.
DH is closing his business down. Friday is going to be the last day of business. We have enough money to get by for a month and a half. He has a lot of work that he can do for friends, so he is going to get all that done.
He is going to go find a "real" job.
I am really freaked out by the whole thing, but I have decided that it is not my problem, this one is Gods. He will figure out what needs to be done and it will all work out.

When my DH shut down his business which was supplying most of our income, it was scary. We did not have DD yet, or a mortgage, but it still was very scary. We have had some ups and downs since then, but God has been faithful. I will pray for your family about this transition!
I know how you feel. I have been looking for a job for the past 2 months with no luck. I have put in at least 2 dozen apps to places that were "hiring". I realized that a lot of places say they are hiring so they get more apps in. Good luck to you and your family in this new endevor. I will be praying for you.
