Hi
I really hope someone can help me/let me know I'm not alone!
I've been insulin-dependent diabetic for 12 yrs (am now 26) and was diagnosed with PCOS 3 yrs ago.
The research I've done suggests that PCOS is all caught up with insulin resistance etc. and ppl with PCOS are recommended to follow a low carb diet. - Presumably this is to lower the amount of insulin floating around their system.
I have to inject 5 times a day. Does anybody have any tips about how I can successfully manage my PCOS and dieabtes; I have to admit I'm struggling. I can't follow any "atkinsy"-type diets, as I have to have a certain amount of carbohydrate. Also, I can't keep my insulin at an even level as I get "peaks" after each injection.
I know I'm rambling a bit, but I'm p***ed off and don't know what to do for the best.
I've put on 4 stone (48lb); I'm so horribly hairy- been having laser treatment on my chin for 18 mths, and hasn't worked a jot; and I just can't see a way to rectify it.
Any ideas? - I'd be sooooooo grateful, you can't imagine! You hear quite a lot about people developing type 2 diabets as a result of PCOS, but with all my searching I haven't found anything about type 1.
Thanks.
Bliss
I'm sorry I don't have any answers for you. I wanted to give you a *bump* and I think your post may fit better in the diabetes forum. I know you said you have type 1 and this is for type 2, but hopefully they will be able to answer your questions.

I really wish I had some answers for you too, but I don't right now.
I am on a diabetic diet--of sorts which is basically all about proportioning the amount of carbs I eat with veggies, fruits, and dairy. It is a nutritional diet, one that it easier to follow than Atkins, but doesn't yield the great weight loss that Atkins does.
Have you searched the Research Article forum for answers yet? Maybe you can find some help there. If not, I'll see what I can come up with. I do know that being on insulin doesn't help with the weight loss. I was on insulin for a brief time and I gained five pounds a month.
