Default Precose (acarbose) and Glycet (miglitol) explanation... interesting.

There have been a few posts about these drugs recently, so I thought I'd share this information I found at the Arkansas Department of Health website.

I'm not diabetic, just IR and my endo prescribed 50mg Glyset with meals. I've not seen any effects such as weight loss or increased energy, but I'm finally getting over the gas and bloating... ugh.

Alpha-Glycosidase Inhibitors slow the digestion of carbohydrates in the intestine so the peak in blood glucose after meals is not as high. These medications must be taken with the rst bite of the meal and may cause abdominal pain, diarrhea and gas. This class of oral medications include:
• Precose (Acarbose)
• Glycet (Miglitol)
