Default Prednisone

Hi
I've just been diagnosed with PCOS and my doctor wants to put me on spiro and prednisone. I'm okay with taking the spiro because I've researched it and it seems safe. However, the prednisone is making me very nervous. The doctor said it is a very low dosage but I can't understand why he is prescribing it when I'm not trying to conceive.

I am not overweight and the only other symptom I have is hirsutism. However, in my labwork my testoserone and my DHEA S were high.

Has anyone else taken prednisone for their hormones? Thank you for your help.

I have not heard of Prednisone for PCOS. My hubby used to take it for Asthma, and it was horrible. What does it do for PCOS??? And are you taking it with other "traditional" meds like Met and Spiro?

I haven't actually started the prednisone just because I'm very unsure about it. I was hoping someone could tell me if it's normal to use it for PCOS. He's also prescribed spiro which I'm planning on taking for the excess hair.

Eva- I have been on pred. many times for my asthma and after reading what you wrote about it working on hormones. I'm now wondering if when I recieved my first blood work to find out if I had PCOS that I was on pred. I think it would be interesting for me to find out about that. Thank you

I just got off of predinsone a couple of weeks ago. I was on it for 16 days for a rash I got from some perfume. If you take it be watchful for the side effects. I got really hungry and gained weight. Which has made me very frustrated because I have gained back some of the weight I have worked so hard to lose. Now I feel like a fat cow!!
