Default Prednisone Question

For those of you on Prednisone, I would like to know what dosage you are on, how often per day, whether it's every day or every other day, and side effects if any. I'm considering talking to talking with my doctor about being put on this to balance me out, but would like to know what I have to look forward to regarding this. Thanks bunches!

i saw the title of this and had to post my opinion....
this turned into a little rant.....sorry..i didn't even know about women with pcos being put on it.

i was on prednisone alot when i was younger (severe asthmatic)....at one point i was on it for over 6 months at one time, part of it was by iv, the rest by pill.i was also on it off and on for over 10 years.

i did not have any symptoms of pcos until i was on prednisone and when i was on the steroids i had the worst steroid acne that wilford hall(large training hospital on lackland afb in san antonio) had ever seen.for that matter i got to be on grand rounds and i got to have my picture taken and was in medical journals. other than the acne, i had the wonderful weight gain, insomnia, mental problems, change of the shape and liquid of my eyes these are a few of the symptoms i had while one the drug.

since then i was dx with pcos, i have had holes in the bones of my wrists and have had surgery on both, i have had surgery on both eyes twice, not to mention the fact that i have been dx as bipolar and adhd.

i have since had cortisone shots and steroid inhalers which i have not suffered side effects from, i make sure to tell the drs for whatever that i will not go on pred. unless it is a life or death situation or unless they can convince me that it will help....needless to say i haven't been on it for at least 15 years.

I take 5mg of prednisone a night right before bed. I have been on it for the past 2 months and have not experianced any side effects from it. My RE put me on it as my 17-hydroxyprogesterone is off which means I have an adrenal problem I think I've actually done pretty well on it. I know some gain weight on it...I have not had this problem but I also weight practiaclly nothing (certianlly not classical of PCOS as i'm 5ft and 90lbs but don't mess with me I am tough... lol ) I had to fight with my former RE to put me on it (he put me on .25mg of Dexemethasone..same thing basically but dosage was too low) so it's not really easy to get I think because of the possiable side effects.

I haven't taken Prednisone for PCOS (though I will be looking into it now)...but I've taken it short term (10 mg for 10 days) whenever I get back/neck problems. (It's an anti-inflammatory, it helps relax my muscles.) I absolutely LOVE this drug, I think it's a wonder-drug. I'd take it every day if I could. The dosage is so small, you shouldn't experience the weight gain. It should clear up your acne too, it always makes my face super clear. And I feel great while on it... it gives you a euphoric feeling. (At least it does me.) If they're using this drug to treat PCOS, that's definitely something I need to look into.

Hi

I take Prednisolone - as I have late onset congenital adrenal hyperplasia as well as pcos etc

I've been on it 4 YEARS. And feel somewhat better on it. I don't feel so sick in the mornings any more. My weight has gone up a little - but I find its worth it for the benefit.

hth
