It's interesting that the pregnant "man" receiving current publicity on Oprah and in the media has a beard which is still growing even after being off male hormones for two years and even with all the surge of female hormones due to pregnancy.
I think there's a demonstration there of just how permanent some characteristics can be, even though in "his" case they don't appear to have been present until they were induced by hormones from outside sources and certainly long after the time when many of us had them affecting us at puberty.
It's interesting too, that though late use of hormones produced a beard approaching male proportions, and although s/he claims that his/her clitoris grew to a size sufficient to allow sexual intercourse, his/her voice, although it's low for a female is not really very convincing -- his wife's voice is actually deeper.
And yet with all the changes that were obvious, "he" is obviously still fundamentally a "she" at least insofar as though bearded, breastless and with a phallus sufficient for sexual intercourse, pregnancy was still possible.
Clearly the extent of the effects of hormones can't always be predicted absolutely.
I saw "him" on Oprah . He said the testosterone he was taking made his clitoris so big he could have intercourse with his wife, that scared the heck out of me!! I'm already dealing with manly hair and hair loss from pcos, gosh, i think i'd lose it if i starting growing a penis!

While women with a penis are not unknown, I don't think it's possible for a penis complete with urethra to form after birth if it's not there at birth. "He" didn't say what size "his" clitoris has grown to. Almost certainly not more than 3". There have been a number of reported cases of mothers being very alarmed on realizing that a daughter in her early teens had experienced natural clitoral enlargement to about 2" and rushing the poor girl to into plastic surgery to have it needlessly removed.
I'd say the encouraging thing in connection with the revelations about that "guy" is that even with a clitoris of that size and an almost-male beard, "he" is actually a functional woman.
i saw this oprah too.... somewhere on sc i read that they think women get pcos when they are exposed to excess testosterone in the mother's womb....
i couldn't help but wonder about what the consequences will be for the child they have conceived....
i wish them well and i really hope their baby does not end up with pcos.
what a crazy world we are living in! i do think it's a bit of a lie to say it is a "man" having this baby.... because regardless of how he identifies himself, he still has a uterus....
do you think a lot of husbands breathed a sigh of relief when they heard the full story? i bet at least one of them thought, "oh, crap.... now i might have to be the pregnant one, too!" :-)
