Unhappy Pregnant and worried!

Hi ladies I need advice about metformin and pregnancy. I posted my questions here under the metformin topic too, but thought I might get more of a response here.

I got pregnant while on fortamet (metformin) and switched doctors. My new doctor told me to stop taking the metformin, when I was pregnant about 3 weeks. My first blood test (3 weeks-6/26) said about 3700 hCG and 17.5 progesterone. One week later (4 weeks-7/2) I had an hCG of 25000 and progesterone was 17.4. It dropped one tenth. I'm so scared I will miscarry from low progesterone. Should I start taking the metformin again today since I can't talk to my doctor until Monday?

Will that hurt my body to start up again after being off of it for a week? I know that it can regulate hormones and I take the extended release type. Please give me you opinions.
Thanks.

Metformin doesn't increase progesterone to my knowledge. That being said, I find it odd that your new doctor would have you go off it at only 3 weeks. I was on my extended release until week 12.
Every doctor has a different cut off as far as what they consider low progesterone. When you were told your last results did they sound concerned at all about your level going down slightly? Mine had gone down from over 20 to 18 and they were not concerned with that drop at my specialists office.
I'm not sure that going back on the Metformin will do anything but let's see what some other people's opinions are.
Good luck!

Progesterone levels fluctuate constantly. They could do one test at 8am then another one at 9am and the numbers would likely be different. My doctor personally liked to see progesterone levels from 15 to 20. I know other doctors have different opinions on the numbers they want to see but if you doctor didn't say it was a problem then he isn't worried about it.

As the pp stated I'm pretty sure Met has nothing to do with what your progesterone levels are at. I was on Met ER when I became pg and my first p4 came back at 12.6. I ended up going on progesterone support until 10 weeks and I stopped taking my met at 12 weeks. There have been polls done before about when doctor's have people stop taking their Met. Some people are told immediately, some are told after the first trimester and some are told to stay on it their entire pg.

As for stopping and then restarting the met, I honestly am not sure what to tell you. I would hate to give you the wrong advice. I'm the type of person that prefers to wait to talk to my doctor before taking any medications I know he hasn't specially approved, so my advice would be to wait and talk to him/her on Monday. Hopefully this will give you are bump so you can get some other opinions as well. Congrats on the pg!! Your beta numbers sound great!

Thanks ladies! I feel a little better with your responses. I haven't been able to talk to a doctor about the decrease in progesterone yet, but I will on Monday.
