Question Prenatals

Since me and the hubs are ttc I thought it would probably be in my best interest to start taking prenatals. I'm going to the fertility specialist 12/16 and wanted to get a head start on taking them. I was wondering what OTC brands people recommend?

I've heard that the Trader Joe's brand is good. I'm really a huge baby when it comes to swallowing giant pills so I'm not adverse to a chewable or a small one.

I'd love to hear your thoughts- thanks!

I really like Target brand, they are smaller than other vitamins I've taken and have a smooth coating so they go down easy. Also they are extremely cheap, only $4 for a bottle that lasts three months, which is a bargain compared to other brands.

Do you need a prescription for Prenatals or are they over the counter?

I found one at walmart that was small too I need a small one to get through my band and found a good one there. And I think it was like only $4 as well. I have added folic acid to my vitamins too....

They have Rx vitamins and OTC ones- I think they're comparable. Folic acid is probably the most important factor

As someone who chews up her advil, I have select OB (also called Choice OB). It's called that because you have the choice to chew it or swallow it. My regular doctor prescribed it and I really like it. I haven't felt sick yet with it-- I take it a little after dinner. If you chew it, just make sure you drink a full glass of water because some vitamins are harmful to your esophagus if they just sit there. It was $15 at Walgreens for a 90 day supply.

I found a brand at Krogers that is only $5 and doesn't make me nauseas, which is a problem I tend to have with prenatals

You can take a women multi vitamin and buy some extra folic acid. I have been taking a women multi for a while now and when I went to the RE he told me I could finish the bottle just to add the extra folic acid if I didn't want to toss them for the prenatal...The extra folic acid seems to be the most important thing in the prenatals

I take the Target generic brand pre-natal. It's a good size to swallow, and I've been having morning sickness off and on since week 5.

Good tip I've learned, take your prenatal at night. Drink a gulp of water first then pop the pill in. There have been several nights I had to skip it because I was too sick but for the most part I was able to take them.

Also add a DHA supplement, very important for a growing fetus! I take the Expecta enfamil DHA supplement. It is tiny and easy to swallow.

My doctor told me to start taking a prenatal even before we were ttc. But I think any kind of vitamin would do.

I try many kinds over the 3 years...I love walmarts..because they are small, and they have no taste. I am also on a prescription folic acid because of the two seizure meds I am on. I take 5x the folic acid the average woman takes
