Hi. I am going to the fertility specialist tomorrow. I have been through the ringer with doctors and lack a clear diagnosis... I have also been on BCP since the age of 14 and am now 28 because of a terribly irregular period. Later attempts to go off the pill have resulted in acne, oily skin, and no periods... I also had a recent ultrasound that revealed multiple cysts on both ovaries. My question is - do I tell the doctor about initial symptoms I had when I first got my period? Like how they felt and initial hair growth. Because on the BCP, I have no symptoms (clear skin, no hair growth, and am thin now) so it feels like I am crying wolf. And, it feels like that is what doctors think to - as they are quick to dismiss me with just keep taking BCP. Thanks!!
I think you should tell them everything...the bcp just mask the pcos symptoms and they just come back when u are not taking them so there is a problem there...
I was diagnosed with PCOS twelve years ago and have been feeling worse over the years... Now I am undergoing testing for Cushing's Syndrome and the PCO may have been a misdiagnosis. I am hoping in this sticky about preparing to see the doctor that there could be some mention about the doctor's excluding Cushing's. I have seen small posts here and there that mention Cushings, but nothing formal.
My suggestion to anyone who reads my post who is a newbie here is this: at the same time you are seeing a doc for your PCO, please, please, please have the doc test your cortisol levels. It is very important! I wish I had known about this 12 years ago!
Best of luck to you.

Okay can someone please suggest what I should do if you were me. I had been on the BCP for about 2 yrs and then I stopped taking them last december because I was getting married in Feb of this year and we wanted to start trying right away. Well my periods have been all wack. Ive been having one every other month. I though it was normal from being on the Pill. Well I still made an appt with my OB GYN and shared my concerns, since I had not become pregnant yet. She said she was going to do some test because it sounded like I might have PCOS. I do have Hair growth on my upper lip and under my chin. My hair has always fallen out but I really didnt think much of it. I have gain some weight but I thought it was just lack of exercise and my diet. She I go back for my results and my blood work is fine. my OB GYN tells me that its odd that my blood work is fine and yet I look like someone who has PCOS. So I was like okay what now. she suggested something to have me start and then Cymoid to help me ovualte.
went home and dicuss with DH and not too sure yet about going that way. Especially since the Doctor couldnt even tell me for sure what is wrong with me.
I went to see an Endo for Thyroid a month later and he DX me with Hypothyroidism. but my concern is should I still see someone for PCOS??? any suggestions would be greatly appriecated.
DO you know for sure that you are not ovulating? Have you ever tried an at home kit that you can buy in the drug store to check? I would never start medicine, especially clomid which can cause multiples, until I knew for sure that I was not ovulating. I would either start with the home kit, start checking basal temps (fertilityfriend.com for more info) or buy a fertility monitor to confirm whether you are or are not ovulating beofre jumping into medicine.. The phase "you look like someone with PCOS" is not concrete enough evidence to me...
Hope this helps..
