Question Is Prescribed Drugs Better Than Herbal Treatments

After finding out about PCOS, i have used several prescribed drugs for various things, i used primulut, clomid, provera, metformin, all of these was for different things. After not being satisfied i sought a specialist because i was TTC and i also went through a lot of other test and was told the my prolactin level is not normal and it is too high therefore i was prescribed with another drug called bromocriptine. After being treated for 17 months, my prolactin level was still not normal it came down to about 30, normal is 20. After using this i had a period for 3 months and had to used back provera to stop it. Now i visited a heath store to find something to help me, someone recommended VITEX then told me i can also see the doctor at the health shop, you said he would cleanse me out and i can used herbal treatment to balance my hormones and help normalised my prolactin level and TTC. it was also said that you cannot get pregnant unless yor prolactin level is normal. i was just wondering have anyone tried herbal treatments. i now have to make an appointment to go and see him.

I'm using herbs, alternative medicine (naturopath), exercise and diet to treat my PCOS. I'm not a big fan of the medical and pharmacetical industry.
I've found that the naturopath treats me, the whole person, as opposed to just one symptom at a time. I am making good progress and will be sticking with this form of treatment.

Is the Dr at the health shop a naturopath or homeopath? Hopefully he/she will also talk to you about diet (way of eating) and exercise.

I hope you get the same good results that I have.

P.S. I see that you are in Barbados. I love it there. We were there before Christmas and absolutely hated coming back to the snow

I initially treated my PCOS via a specialist (metformin, clomid, injectables, IVF, BCPs etc etc) and I do have a daughter as a result (and, just for the record, I don't believe my prolactin levels were ever normal then, though they may be now - haven't had them tested lately). For the last year and a half I have been treating it naturally with the help of an acupuncturist/TCM practisioner. Both methods were slow for me (I am extremely resistant and have had PCOS signs since I was 12), but really they don't compare. With the first approach I was a wreck - I wrote a journal during those years of medical treatment and I reread it a few days ago and am really stunned at just how stressed out and SICK I became. I had seriously bad anxiety and depression and my gyno was really treating the fertility and not looking at the shrivelled up little person I was becoming. Now I am sooooooooooo much healthier. With my first pregnancy I was really ill and for a long time after. As Beth said, alternative practisioners treat all of you, not just a few symptoms and it makes the world of difference. If that way ends up taking longer for me to heal, well I'm all for it, because at the end of the day I'll be so much healthier.
