Default Prescriptions?

I'm getting ready to make a doctor's appointment to re-evaluate my symptoms ( specifically the hirsutism, since it's what gives me the most problems ) and I was wondering what prescriptions or combinations you ladies have tried that have yielded the best results as far as curbing hair growth goes?

Thanks in advance.

Default some things i've tried

Hi mannequin,

In response to your post, my dr. prescribed 100 mg Spironolactone. It's supposed to (among other things) reduce unwanted hair. Also, she gave me a prescription for a cream called Vaniqua, but I haven't filled it yet because it's fairly expensive and I want to see how the Spiro works first (i just got it about 3 weeks ago).

Another "home remedy" that has worked for me is to bleach the hair on my upper lip with Sally Hansen Cream Bleach (found at Walmart) and then cut the hair really short with a small scissors. That way, it really doesn't look weird or unnatural because most women have a little something on their upper lip. I've generally been really happy with this method of treatment for hirusutim. It's kind of a pain to keep doing over and over though, and that's why I'm trying the spironolactone.

Hope this helps!

Don't expect miracles from Vaniqa. It will slow the hair growth, but the exact same hair will eventually appear. It will take about 4 weeks for you to notice any difference. Also some people find it causes more ingrown hairs, especially ate first. If you decide to continue using it, check out some of the online drugstore deals. You'll have to buy more than one tube at a time to get the best prices, so your doctor may have to write your prescription to reflect that. My dermatologist told me up front that insurance will not cover it.
