Does anyone else pay for their Yasmin and notice this? Is it the place that I get my pills from or is it the company? When I started Yasmin over a year ago it was only $30 a month. This last time I picked up my Rx it was $53! Soon i'm not gonna be able to afford this! What should I do? Why is it going up like this??
I notice this as well. I don't know why, but you should save your receipts and/or obtain a print out from your pharmacy, the cost to you is a tax write off.

Are you paying a co-pay or out of pocket for this drug? If you don't have insurance, then you can call around for pricing at different pharmacies, and switch places if you need to. However, some pharmacies will price-match others. If it's a co-pay increase, then you need to call your insurance company and find out why- they could have updated their formulary and Yasmin may no longer be a preferred drug on their list. If that's the case, and you still are having trouble affording it, then you might want to speak with your doc about switching to another B/C with either a generic or a B/C that is on their preferred formulary.
Yasmin costs even more than other BCP's because most insurance companies call it an optional "cosmetic" pill, due to its decreased association with weight gain. Since it's important for us to keep our weight down, your doctor might be able to write a letter to your insurance company saying that Yasmin is taken to regulate menses and is (in their opinion) the best BCP for PCOS. It worked once for me, and they decreased my co-pay to 10 dollars. My insurance company at the time was a tiny one called Klais. I haven't tried it yet since I switched to a bigger company.

Wow the price of Yasmin sure is alot where you are! I'm in CA and have Kaiser and for three boxes it's only a $20 copay. I'd sure hate it if the price went up here.
I know - it's daylight robbery! The good news is that Yasmin is going generic in the next few months, so you will have an alternative although generics aren't the best, but at least it's an option that will be a closer match than anything else. Luckily I work for a ob/gyn so I tend to use the samples whihc I'm very grateful for.
I pay $60.90 for Yasmin. I also work in a Pharmacy-all though this has no advantage to the price I pay for Yasmin. I realised today that Yasmin actually costs $70.90 ? I pay $60.90 as I have a healthcare card, I'm guessing that is how it works ??. I have only been taking this BCP for 6 days but I have noticed some pretty annoying side effects such as: headaches, frequent urination, spotting/bleeding etc. I can only hope these do not continue!
was quotes $62.00 for general Rx! and i need 3 packs of the stuff!
its rediculous!

Wow, I did post this topic before. LoL, I recently posted a topic very similar to this one again. haha... but I did get some good advice. So, anyone that is still paying those high prices search for my other topic that is almost the same as this one.

Creme Brulee,
Where did you hear that Yasmin is going generic in the next few months?? I heard that it wasn't even possible to go generic until like 2013 or something like that. And they have samples for Yasmin?? My doctor keeps pushing Lexapro on me and keeps telling me I can basically live off of samples. I wonder if she would have samples for this... hmmmm....
I know! It is ridiculous! Every time I get the RX filled it has went up more. I even have insurance that normally covers RX's really well...but they DO NOT like BCPs and I still have to pay a huge chunk of the total cost.
I'm switching to YAZ...does anyone know if that's any cheaper?

Dang. I have insurance, but even without it it's only like, $7/mo plus the filling fee (love that- costs $8 for them to put a prescription sticker on the sleeve). I sense perhaps the government has something to do with the price. God bless Canada.
Found this while looking up generic brands for Yazmine. Thought that everyone should know this.
Quote:
At this time, generic Yasmin is not available in the United States. The medication is currently under the protection of patents that prevent any generic versions from being produced. The earliest possible date that generic versions could become available is October 2013, when the first patent expires. However, patents for specific uses or lawsuits could delay the availability of generic Yasmin.
Generic Yasmin: An Overview
Yazmine® (drospirenone/ethinyl estradiol) is a prescription contraceptive product. It is one of the many oral contraceptives (birth control pills) available.
Yasmin is made by Bayer HealthCare Pharmaceuticals. It is currently under the protection of patents that prevent any generic Yasmin from being manufactured in the United States. Despite what you may read on the Internet, no generic versions of the drug are available in the United States.
When Will Generic Yasmin Be Available?
The first patent for Yasmin currently expires in October 2013. This is the earliest possible date that a generic version of the drug could become available. However, other circumstances could come up to extend the exclusivity period of Yasmin beyond 2013. This could include things such as other patents for specific Yasmin uses or lawsuits. Once the patent expires, several companies will likely begin manufacturing generic Yasmin products.
Will My Insurance Cover Yasmin?
Each insurance company is different. There has been a long history of insurance companies not covering contraceptive products, although this is beginning to change. Because Yasmin is not yet available in a generic form, you may have to pay a higher co-payment if your insurance company does cover Yasmin.
