Nothing too graphic i hope lol, but i have really dark skin in certain areas on my body, under my arms, around my neck, where my thighs rub together( thats the tmi bit lol) and on my chest where the middle of my bras rub.
Is there anything i can do about it, like bleaching cream or anything? i can scrub it till its red raw to no avail, im always getting told to scrub my neck its like, im not mucky!!!
It's called ancanthosis nigricans I believe and it is caused by insulin resistance. The only way I know to see an improvement is to treat the underlying insulin resistance. I don't think there are any bleaches or creams out there to treat this but I could be wrong. Maybe some of the others will know of another alternative.

As the other person has stated, that's what it's called. And yes, it is a product of Insulin Resistence, though I've not had mines dx by anyone. Always wondered what caused it before finding SC website. I have it on my neck, beneath my breasts bc they are large and only get to breathe at night or at home, and in between the thighs. I guess that would mean I've been IR since my teen years. Whoa!

There's no specific treatment for acanthosis nigricans. Treating any underlying conditions may cause the skin changes to fade, however. If you're overweight, losing excess pounds can help. Sometimes dietary changes are helpful, too.
If you're concerned about the appearance of your skin, your doctor may prescribe a cream or lotion to help lighten the affected areas. Some of these lotions contain modified vitamin A products such as tretinoin (Retin-A, others) or other medications. Sometimes oral medications such as etretinate or isotretinoin (Accutane, others) are helpful. Fish oil supplements may also be recommended. Dermabrasion or laser therapy may help reduce the thickness of certain affected areas.
