I have been on Yasmin for years, I was originally put on it for ovarian cysts. At the same time each month, I would get this terrible pain in my lower stomach, came to find out I had large cysts that were rupturing. The doctors put me on Yasmin and it worked great, didn't have any problems. About a year ago, I tried going off BC for a month to see if my body could handle it, but of course, the cysts came back immediately. I went back on Yasmin and I've been on it since without any problems. However, this month, I got the new generic form of Yasmin, Ocella, and I started taking that...well, my cyst problem came back! I haven't changed anything else that would do this to me. I didn't put two and two together until just now, I have read a lot of articles that talk about how many women are having side effects from Ocella, but I couldn't find anything on this, anyone else have this problem?? I think I'm going to try to switch back to Yasmin next month, I'm hoping that is the problem and after I switch back things will go back to normal!

I have been taking Yasmin for 2 years and I love it. I started taking the generic Ocella a week and a half ago and I have had a horrible reaction to it. Besides feeling homicidal (haha), I have had a break out on my face. I never break out, usually have no acne whatsoever. I am picking up yasmin tonight and will be taking that from now on never changing again.
You should definitely send a letter to Barr Laboratories to inform them of the side effects you've been having. I stopped taking Yasmin because it was TOO expensive here in GA and I was not willing to spend almost $100 for Rx when I switched jobs. So when my insurance kicked in with my new job *after 60 days*, I was able to get Ocella. I've been on it for 3 weeks (tomorrow) and I haven't had ANY of the side effects the 2 of you have been experiencing.
If I were you, I'd go to my Dr and I'd also send the Lab a letter informing them of the complications caused by the meds.

I was so excited to get generic Yasmin! My insurance didn't cover it because it was a brand name, so I was paying quite a bit per month, but it was worth it, I have tried so many different BC pills, Yasmin is the only one that doesn't cause side effects for me! My pharmacist gave me the option of Yasmin or Ocella, so I'm hoping I can just go back and I can get Yasmin again. What a let down!!! However, I'm glad others have had success with Ocella!!!

I have been on Ocella for a couple months now after being on Yasmin for about 2 years. I switched to Ocella because it is cheaper (i have no medication insurance). I don't think it controls my mood as well as Yasmin did, but other than that I haven't noticed any major changes.
I also went on Yasmin about 8 years ago after having surgery to remove my cysts. I absolutely loved it, and didn't notice a difference when I was switched to Ocella a few months ago until recently. My weight has skyrocketed and my breasts have gotten bigger (ok, that's not necessarily a bad thing for someone who is an A-cup) but right now I am having horrible awful cramps and I feel like I'm going to throw up. I have not had very good experiences with generics in general. I was on Welbutrin for depression for years and found that the generic version just didn't do the job. The name brands are so expensive though, it's a difficult decision to make whether to pay the extra money or to suffer. It is nice to know that I'm not just making this up!
Hey girls, I'm on yasmin too, have only been on it for about 3 months (before that was on microgynon, also known as levlen for 2 years). I never had any symptoms of pcos apart from slight hair on my upper lip, although I have recently been diagnosed with pcos (slightly raised testosterone and cysts on ovaries) . So my doc put me on yasmin cos apparantly thats what they put everyone on, but since I started taking it I am sprouting hair from EVERYWHERE!!! its still fine but slightly darker and longer!!!!! between my boobs, all over my tummy, and right up high on my upper cheeks, even on my knuckles!!! agghhhh i'm 24, thin, not IR, NEVER had any health probs before but suddenly this, and its progressing really fast..... sooo confused, i thought yasmin was supposed to suppress androgens??? How can it make me grow more hair?? Although my leg hair has become incredibly sparse....Just wondering if you girls have any experience of it cos you've been on yasmin for a while... Thanks!!!

I've never had that problem, it took away almost all of my side effects from PCOS. BUt taking this generic has been pretty bad, i've only been putting it together in the past few days so I wanted to see if anyone else has had bad side effects. I can not stop eating! I have to eat anything that pops into my mind at any time! It's awful! I'm going to request to go back on Yasmin, I just wish it wasn't so expensive!
it took my body a few months to adjust to ocella from yasmin, but now i'm not having spotting or cramping. my doc said an adjustment period is normal but that there should be little difference in effectiveness.
Just recently switched from Yasmin to Ocella and haven't noticed any significant differences. About the same time I switched I developed a bit of dermatitis on my face, though. Don't know if the two are related at all but I'll be trying the experimental switch back to Yasmin soon...
I've been taking Ocella for about 2.5 weeks after being on Yasmin for 3 months with no side effects. I felt fine for the first 2 weeks, but then for the past 3 days, my gums have been swollen and painful. My whole jaw feels like it's throbbing. I've read on several websites that BCPs can make your gums more sensitive because the progesterone makes the blood vessels dilate... in addition, I was just getting over a cold, so maybe my immune system is down and I've developed a gum infection? I'm not sure. But I do know that I was absolutely fine on real Yasmin, and now my mouth hurts so much I'm having trouble concentrating on my work. Has anyone else had this side effect, either with Ocella, Yasmin or another pill? Or am I just crazy?
I started the generic about a week ago, and the only side effect I've had has been nausea...and I believe my body is just adjusting to the extra estrogen...I wasn't on Yasmin previously. I was told that I need to take the pill at night with some food, and that the side effects should subside after another week or so.
hi there all. i just started ocella a couple of days ago. i took yasmin once a long time ago (four years ago now, i think?) but switched to modicon/nortrel a few months later because of weight gain. i just started seeing a new doctor a few months ago when my insurance changed, which led to a formal diagnosis of pcos (despite that i don't have any side effects other than acne and possibly slight hirsutism but nothing too extreme), and the doc switched me to yasmin. the pharmacy gave me ocella, and i was fine with that because i've never experienced any differences when switching to generic meds (bcp or otherwise). however, after reading about it on these message boards and elsewhere online, i'm a bit worried, and feeling that maybe i should have just paid the premium for yasmin instead of getting the generic. thus far i've noticed no difference beyond that i've been a bit tired and moody, but since it's only been a few days on ocella and i have exams coming up, i am hesistant to attribute that to the meds. fingers crossed!
I had been taking Yasmin for almost 3 years and I loved it. I lost weight, my acne cleared up, and my periods were lighter shorter and regular. All around I just felt great. During the summer, I was told that Yasmin went generic, so I went ahead and started using Ocella. About a month or two into using it, I noticed that my hair was becoming thinner and more brittle, and my natural curls had lost a lot of volume. It's strange...my hair will hardly absorb any moisture, so when I try to use gel on my damp hair, it basically gets washed out by all the excess water. It used to take an hour or two for my hair to completely air dry with gel, and now it takes hours upon hours. I've switched shampoos like crazy and nothing has helped. I've also had a horrible time losing weight. My periods have been about the same, so at least that's one thing that hasn't changed. I started taking Women's One-a-Day thinking maybe it was a deficiency problem, but still no change. I've been taking Ocella for about 5 months now and I haven't seen any improvements. If I can still get Yasmin, I definitely am going to consider switching back.
