Default Products with NGDA?

Has anyone tried skincare products for acne with NDGA in the ingredient list like DERMAdoctors 'Cool, Calm and Corrected 2n1 rosacea cream'?

I've gone of the pill and aldactone...wanted to see what was going on with my cycles (ha - two cycles in four months...that's what's going on!) Anyway, the downside is my skin has gone seriously mental with acne. I'm 30 and have the worst acne of my life. Nothing seems to help much. I'm using products with glycolics, all the acids, benzoyl peroxide, vitamins, you name it. I even forked out for seven sessions of useless microdermabrasion sessions. But I guess because the problem is hormonal, none of these really work that well.

Anyway, I read about NDGA - nordihydroguaiaretic acid. I read about it on a DERMAdoctor site. Apparently it is a plant-derived "topical medication that can reduce DHT, the hormone that revs up the sebaceous glands, causing oily skin and acne flare-ups". I think the T in the DHT is something to do with testosterone.

NDGA is in a DermaDoctor product called "Calm, Cool and Corrected 2n1 Rosacea Cream". I found it on this site - http://www.dermadoctor.com/pages/newsletter310.asp?WID - which contains info about PCOS.

Well, the stuff looks expensive. I don't mind paying for it if it works - but I don't want to get sucked into buying another expensive skin care item if it doesn't deliver what it promises.

Has anyone tried it? Kinerase also has a product with NDGA in the ingredient list.

I have not heard of this particular ingredient but I have heard of the dermadoctor line and looked at some things in it for keratosis pilaris and it is pricey!

One thing I do not see you specifically mentioning trying is a mud mask... have you tried that? They're cheap and effective and I swear nothing I put on my face as a wash or a lotion etc works at all to give me the results using a mud mask every few days does. It really sucks the nasty stuff out and calms down the breakouts.

I'm having a miscarriage right now and acne is something I seem to get very bad when I give birth or have a miscarriage so I am on a mud mask kick now and it has really worked wonders - and this is definitely hormonal acne. Just something to try - like I said it's cheap. A few bucks for a tube, try it a few times.

I've been using a Dermalogica skin refining mask that has kaolin clay in it. It's great for soothing the inflamation and drying things out a bit.

I've got that weird "skin congestion" beauty therapists talk about - where you can see tiny little lumps that come up deep down in the skin almost like a rash and these evolve into acne outbreaks! So I reckon I need something that can tackle the effect of the hormonal problems on a topical level....the stuff that fights DHT sounded promising.

I'm going to see my Dr about it on Thursday next week, so it will be interesting to hear what she has to say about fighting hormonal acne without the pill, spiro or antibiotics. Mind you, I've done two months worth of antibiotics (March, April) and I don't think they have particularly helped.

You can really tell this is hormonal acne - it's like i've got an inch and a half of acne running from one ear to the next down the jaw line and under the chin. Rest of my face is crystal clear.
