Well I use Prometrium. They are YELLOW caps...I hope we are talking about the right ones here:
But I insert 2 all the way up behind my cervix just before bed. I make sure to wear a panty liner because in the am when you up it will run out.

There is no right or wrong way to insert them, just as high as you can and then go to bed. If your OB says he wants 200mg use 1, if he wants 400mg use 2 and if they want 600mg use 3. I am pretty sure you know how many to use...I hope I helped you some.

I take my prometrium 200 mg by mouth. It's also a little yellow oval pill.

I hope both you and your OB is aware that when taken orally you are only getting 20mg dose instead if the full 200mg.

The reason is that the liver has to process the progesterone first and in that process it holds on to almost 90% of it. If you want to get all of that dose then you would need to use it vaginally.

Just thought I would pass that info along. Also the s/e are greatly reduced when used this way and this is also why the OB's and RE's dont have PG women or those TTC (normally) use them orally, but vaginally. You get more of the hormone and less of the s/e and it saves your liver in the long run!

No, I didn't know this! And my OB didn't tell me this either. Maybe he gave me the dose orally due to the fact I'm not TTC or want to be PG.

I swear, every day there's something new w/this damn PCOS. Right now, I'm dealing w/horrible hair issues. And it's getting worse daily!I don't even want to leave my house anymore.

MiaPinkie: I have had PCOS since I was 12! I have always suffered with facial hair and weight and cyst issues. And either I would have my AF visit for a year or leave me for 2. AF never liked to come and visit and when she did she was very painful and very heavy at times.

When I began to TTC in 2001 did I find out how bad mine was. I was told that I needed to lose 100lbs and take my metformin until I did. I had the bypass in 2003 and after I lost 120lbs I didnt need my metformin anymore. With all this I still had facial hair along with body hair and I continued to not O and get cyst.

I started doing research and came accross research from Dr. John Lee! He treats all wome with PCOS the same whether they want TTC or not! I followed his protocol involving progesterone cream and I have managed my PCOS since 2004!
When I started my treatment I had 14 cyst...7 on each side! After 1.5 months on the treatment I had NO cyst and 2 follicles that were releasing eggs at the time of my scan.
I ended up getting PG that month from the double O that I had with no drugs...just the progesterone I used.

Even though your not looking to TTC right now...you can heal your ovaries and try and balance out your hormones by using the progesterone that your using right now, in a different way. **If you want I can give you the basic treatment plan....

Progesterone Cream: (you can purchase this at any health food store in the US. Make sure it is USP grade progesterone ONLY!)
Apply the cream 20-40mg a day from CD7-28. Do this for a few months to heal the ovaries. Since your not TTC you can use this just like BC pills because your ovaries do not ovulate in the presence of progesterone in the first half of the cycle. Because of this the androgenic effects that are produced from the ovaries are lessened...that is what i have experienced!

Progesterone pill: (Prometrium pills are better utilized when used vaginally nightly before bedtime.)
Insert 200mg nightly from CD7-28 just like the cream. It will do the same thing but your getting all the dose through the cervix.

Either way will help to heal the ovaries and to balance the system and manage the PCOS.
_____________________________________

You could continue to use this way from CD7-28 as long as you wish....or you can scale back to allow for ovulation and use it from CD15(after ovualation) until CD28. This will keep the AF's on time and help to clean the lining of the uterus out each month. I have had great success with keeping my PCOS in balance and remaining cyst free since the summer of 2004. I only used it for the whole month for 2 months then have remained to use it in my luteal phase only...(after O). This keeps me balanced enough to wear every once in a while I will get the facial hair but it is managable. I have improved greatly since I have been adding progesterone to my monthly regime.

Google Dr. John Lee and benefits of progesterone in treatment...you will find the protocol I just mentioned. Just email me if you have any further questions.-Terra

This is the first time that I have take prometrium vaginally also. I was wondering if it is normal to have a ton of yellowish cm throughout the day as well. I know that it comes out in the morning, but is it still coming out until you put the next on in? Thanks!

Yes it is normal to get a yellowish discharge all day. Esp if you use 2 or more caps a night. I use 3 and I still have it come out little by little during the day.

Hope that helps you some. -Terra

Terra,

Thank you so much for advice. Reading your story made me cry because of everything you've been through. I feel like such a biotch to worry about my issues and then read stories like yours on here: ladies who have had to deal with this for such a long time (dx in early teens), TTC, miscarriages and so forth.

I need to keep telling myself that I'm very damn lucky! I DO NOT have the crippling side affects like major weight gain, acne and so forth. And I was diagnosed late at 41. I didn't even know I really had this at all. Just severe PMDD. Maybe if I wanted kids and found out I couldn't get pg, it would have been different.

I'm so happy for you that you have your little kiddos and BTW-You look fabulous in your photos!! Way to go!

Thanks Mia for the kind comments. Although I have been through so much I allow myself to learn from my experiences and to remember what I have learned so I can help others. Esp if my DD starts to go through what I have, I will not want her to suffer the way that I have. So I like to keep on top of all the medical advancements that are made in the area of womens issues regarding TTC and PCOS. I have went through all of this and I want others to benefit from what i have learned. I love seeing others get the help they need. Thanks again for the kind words...you have a great day! -Terra
