I'm a newbie, but I just wanted to thank you SOOO much for all of the info you provided on this thread.
I don't have PCOS but a friend of mine who does referred me to this site b/c I'm only 21 and we have a total of 6 pregnancies with 5 of those leading to miscarriage. One healthy boy, which I am so very thankful. But the fact still stands that I've lost five babies and am still not receiving any help from my doctors (thats the good ole navy docs for ya ).
Anyhow, my losses have been at 5 weeks, 9 weeks, 5 weeks, 12 weeks and around 12-13 weeks. All five times I was tested for low progesterone, and all five times it was extremely low... which of course concerned me, but they kept telling me that (in their words) "Progesterone will never CAUSE a miscarriage. It is only a symptom of a already unviable pregnancy, not the cause."
So, of course, I took their words for it and thought it must be some other thing going on.
After reading through your post and all of the information you have given, I have to say that I DEFINITELY, without a shadow of a doubt, believe that I have low progesterone. The symptoms you listed fit me to a T! I ordered some progesterone cream off of a website recommended by my friend and will be slathering that on like sunscreen when/if we get pregnant again, until I can head to the doc and demand them to put me on something stronger.
No problems what so ever getting pregnant... it's just staying pregnant.
Oh, and I also had HORRIBLE preterm labor through my whole pregnancy (from 22 weeks until he was born at 36 weeks) with my son. You mentioned that preterm labor can also be another sign.
I just wanted to thank you so much for taking the time to put all of that together.
Brandi- So glad I could help, and that you read it all! :p I had pre-term labor with my first son and PROM at 35 weeks. In this pregnancy I have stayed on progesterone supps the entire pregnancy and have had no problems unless I lower my dose. I'm now 36 weeks (37 on Sunday) and still going strong. No contractions (besides BH) and no cervical change. It's amazing what progesterone supps can do for someone who needs it. I'm sorry for your losses, and wish you the best in your future pregnancies!
I was just reading your post on Progestrone and I was wondering wether I have Low progestrone. When my OB tested my progestrone during my first pregnancy I had low progestrone and shortly after that my pregnancy ended in a miscarriage at 5.5 weeks. With my second pregnancy I started taking progestrone at 15 DPO but still miscarried at 5 weeks.
My oB tested my progestrone in the beginning of my cycle as part of recurrent loss test it was a little on the low side but after a couple of days it went back up a little. I just had my progestrone tested at 8 DPO and I'm awaiting the results. I have a lutheal phase of 15 to 16 days so that's long right? The strange tjing I noticed is that I seem to get watery and egg white CM after ovulation at around 9/10 dpo and I read somewhere that it could have soemthing to do with higher levels of estrogen.............does this mean my progestrone levels are low? Also lately, since my second miscarriage I have been having some brow/yellowish spotting a couple of days before I ovulate.
I'm sorry it is so long and I have so many questions.............I hope I make sense!!
Any advise greatly appreciated!
sry, i havent´ read all of the posts in this thread, but the book "what your doctor may not tell you about premenopause" by dr. john lee suggests, that polycystic ovaries are caused by estrogen dominance. the book is a very good read.
i cannot stop recommending it, i downloaded it from amazon.com for 10 dollars. pcos usually leads to anovulation (if only now and then) and so it leads to progesterone deficiency/estrogene dominance. this book recommends the use of npc as the best means to even out your progesterone/estrogene.
especially those cysters who are thinking about hysterectomy or similar operations, read this book before you trust your own ob gyn. obviously, progesterone is absolutely underrated! women are very often talked into hysterectomy etc. much too early!
love,
pam

I just suffered a miscarriage 3 weeks ago, I was 5 weeks. Dr believes it was because of low progesterone. I am terrified to get pg again, because I don't want to go through that again. I asked my Dr if theres a way to prevent this from happening again, he says no. But I am reading about this progesterone cream and wondering if I would start using this after O'ing, could this possibly help?? If so, where can I get it? Do they sell this in GNC? I do have a healthy 2yo DS and I had to use progesterone suppositories the first trimester of that pregnancy.
I only have a quick sec because I have relatives visiting, but I wanted to answer...
Baby Bee- They yellow you see after ovulation is actually a sign of high progesterone... It comes from the corpus luteum after ovulation giving your mucus a yellow-ish tinge. So, that's a good sign. You luteal phase it great. How low was your progesterone- when they said it was on the lower side? Basically you want a progesterone level over 20 if taking fertility meds, and 10-15+ if natural.
Jenn- It could help yes- in a viable pregnancy. GNC does carry NPC, but it only has 10-20mg. You want something with a higher amount of progesterone, since you need to use 20+ mg of progesterone per application. Check out this thread for some other brands that have higher amounts.

I have a question for you: I got my results back and Friday it was 10.6 and Monday it was 8.7. I am on 200 mg of progesterone pills right now. Will it hurt anything to take 2 pills a day? I am 9w3d pg and started late with the supplements. It would be a total of 400 mg. Thanks

My OB would not allow me to take more than 200 mg day. I am currently taking 100 mg 2 x a day of prometrium (oral pill). I started out with similar numbers, and now we are doing great. The orals are great, but I believe from what I was told, if you take more than 200 mg it increases the chances of a cleft palet. Talk to your doc - maybe have some more b/w to check your levels again or switching to 2 x day. Your placenta will be taking over soon, so relief is on the way Hang in there - prometrium DOES work!

Ok, I talked to the nurse and she said only take one, no need for 2. I only did it yesterday. Hopefully I didn't hurt anything! How would I know? I guess at the ultrasound huh? Great, another worry!

I really dont think you hurt the baby for one day of extra usage Have no worries. Studies are usually over long term use & effects. I have been just as worried as you, so I understand. I started out w/ prog at 9, then went to 12.7, down to 10. Then I swicthed from the suppositories to the oral and have been great ever since. Baby is doing great, so therefore I am too. I felt better after hitting that 10 wk mark since that is when placenta takes over. I figured if the baby wasnt gonna stick, it would have happened by the 10 wk mark. Maybe that will help you when you hit 10 wk too

Sugarbug -
You seem very knowledgeable about progesterone - so here goes my question and by the way thanks for the info.
I have had lots of trouble withh poor lining and wish i knew what progesterone levels i have had. i had a chemical preg. in june and am finally started back up currently now on injectables. i am 3 dpo. i am currently taking oral progesterone 200mg 3x's a day this cycle and finally by pushing they are giving me the crinone only because i wanted something on top of the oral. i get pretty bad cellulitis from the shots, but is the crinone that bad?
I am just praying that it is doing something in there. My lining was only a 3.9 on my last u/s which was 3 days before my hcg.
