I was diagnosed with pcos a few months ago... However, I'm having a really hard time managing it. My progesterone levels were very low, so my doctor wanted to first get my progesterone levels where they should be. However, I cannot tolerate even the smallest dose of progesterone. Within a dose or two, I am an emotional wreck. I can't stop crying and my anxiety is through the roof.. I even tried just pushing through the symptoms for a cycle, but I was completely miserable the entire time - I can't go through that every month.
I see a naturopathic doctor so we've tried bioidentical progesterone as a transdermal cream, oral tablet and sublingual pellet, all in the lowest possible dose, and I still can't tolerate any of it..
I seem to be intolerant to the progesterone, but I can't seem to find any decent information of progesterone intolerance - but I know it does exist! I'm hoping someone here has a similiar experience and can shed some light on this for me. I am only 19 and I'm really scared as to what is going on with my body. I'm also really afraid that my doctor doesn't know what to do next, and I don't know where I would turn next... She is really the only support I have in this.
I can't really help... But just thought i'd let you know your not in it alone. I was the SAME way! When my dr tried giving my progesterone. I can't tolerate provera (straight progesterone) or bcp. I am crazy on them! Like I cry at the drop of a dime, and I have anxiety attacks 3-4 times a day! So..I know how you feel. If you find anything. let me know!!!
good luck!
Thanks for responding, knowing I'm not alone makes me feel better! I'm just curious, what, if anything, are you currently taking/doing to help with the pcos?
My doc currently has me taking evening primrose oil, a blood sugar support supplement, a supplement called 'ovablend,' a b-5 supplement, and another supplement called 'adrenal assist.' I've only been taking the supplements for a few days, so I'm yet to really see any results, but I am hopeful (I have to be, what other options are there?!?)
The doctor who wrote this book is in my area - I have never seen him but he does late night informercials for his services - which includes treatment for "hormone allergy" -- apparently [according to his theories] progesterone is one of the main hormones that can be a problem with regards to "hormone allergy" - and he purports to be able to do some pretty amazing things by using homeopathy dilutions of progestone drops for various conditions and complains - often related to pain and seemly not obviously very related to hormones. I think that the way that it is supposed to work is by desensitizing your system to progesteone and its undesirable effects. This is his website: http://www.drroby.com/ -- frankly I don't what to make of him or his theories -- basically I think it is all kind of interesting and he may have some of it right but I also tend to disagree with some of the things he says.
