Default Progesterone Supplementation Query

Hi Everyone,

I am new (first post today).

I have been trying to get pregnant for over 6 months without luck. I have had my hormones tests via salivary testing. They came back with a low progesterone and high estrogen. I have been placed on progesterone supplement (orally). I have no idea if I ovulate (no cervical mucous to note) although I do get temperatures. I have read an enormous amount of literature and am a little confused as to why progesterone would be prescribed to conceive (i understand the uterine lining) but progesterone is also used as a contraceptive to halt ovulation.

My question is this - is using progesterone supplementation a no win situation. It may increase my cervical lining which helps implantation etc, but couldn't it also prevent ovulation?

Thank you for your replies in advance.
