Default Prolactin? What does this mean?

Hi Everyone,
I drove the 20 hours north to the RE, only to have an extremly brief visit with the promise of a more detailed phone call after my labs came back. The NURSE (not dr.) called me back to say my Prolactin levels were very high. This morning she called again and said I need to have them re ran. If they are still as high, I need to come back up to see the doctor again.

Can someone let me know what is that prolactin does (google didn't help!)? Should I be concerned that it's high? And is it normal for the RE to not be so hands on? Any insight, answers etc are VERY APPRECIATED! Thanks- Robyn

i found this site very helpful when looking at your labwork

http://www.pinelandpress.com/faq/hormonelevels.html

This is what it says about prolactin:

Prolactin Day 3 < 24 ng/ml Increased prolactin levels can interfere with ovulation. They may also indicate further testing (MRI) should be done to check for a pituitary tumor. Some women with PCOS also have hyperprolactinemia.

Here is a link about hyperprolactinemia:
