Default Prometrium

I am looking for information about prometrium. I was switched from Provera to this yesterday at my checkup - is there really anything different between the two?

I've been on both. The biggest difference for me was the side effects. With provera I always became super grumpy. The only side effect I've had with prometrium is sleepiness but I take them at bedtime so it's a good thing. Also, with provera I would start a cycle usually within a couple of days after the last pill whereas with prometrium I have started from 2 days after the last pill to 9 days and once it didn't even bring on AF. Good luck to you. Oh yeah, prometrium is closer to the progesterone our bodies produce compared to provera.

Hi Sweetie,

The difference between Provera and Prometrium is that Provera is a form of synthetic progesterone, while Prometrium is a natural form of it, and a better choice, I think.

I currently take 200mg Prometrium days 15-28 at bedtime, and have had AF every month I've been on it. Like hairymonster, it made me extra sleepy the first couple of mths on it. I have also had some very pleasant deep sleeps on it...not a bad thing!

On the other side of the coin, I sometimes get headaches when I'm taking it (I'm sure it's the jolt of progesterone to my system) and in mths 2 and 3, I got AF 3 days into taking the Prometrium (I guess it was an adjustment period!) and now I get AF usually 3 days after I stop taking it.

Good luck with it,
NJCyster
