Default Prometrium vs Provera

Anyone know the difference between the two and if the prometrium is better than the provera. I have always took provera or medroxyprogesterone (the generic) to start AF but now that I have seen the RE this month, she wants me to use the Prometrium. The only thing I know is the $10.00 difference with insurance which stinks for 10 lousy pills. It was $10 for the Provera or generic and it worked like clockwork and the Prometrium is $20.00 and I haven't tried it yet but will since I already out of pocketed it.

Thanks for your help!

I am taking it now. Quite bloated and zitty. NICE! Anyhoo, it is a micronized form of a natural progesterone, meaning in plain english that is more natural and won't break down as fast so that your body gets a slower released dose=less side effects. It is also emulsified in peanut oil, so don't take it if you are allergic to p-nuts.

I prefer provera. Works like a charm for me. I used prometrium one month and it took longer to work and I had some a bad af major cramping and bleeding I though my uterus and everything attached to it was going to fall out literally. I did try prometrium another time and had the same symptoms. Prometrium is supposed to be a more natural form of progesterone. But, I prefer provera personally. Good luck

Well thank god I am no longer in need of either, using the pogesterone natural cream Love it on my 3rd natural cycle 25 days with just 3 days of AF. I looove it!Just wanted to warn you this happened to me I was headed for a divorce if i didn't sop taking it! LOL

I just wanted to add that my OB/GYN has me on prometrium because he said it is safe in case you are pg. I am ttc and am using the prometrium to regulate my cycles so that maybe i can find out if and when I am ovulating.

I prefer prometrium. Besides the heavier bleeding and cramps with af, I didn't realy have alot of side effects. When I took the provera I had back pain, bloating, chest pains, and I was a ravivg BIT@@.

Default Prometrium

My husband and I have been married 3 years and we've been ttc for about 6 months now. I thought it was a good time to start, since all the women in my family have had trouble having children. Anyways, my doc has me on 500mg metformin and Prometrium 200mg 10 days of the month. I have two questions: Everyone seems to be on a higher dosage of met than me, that confuses me. And two, how soon after I finish the 10 days of prometrium should we ttc? Having a few small symptoms now of pg..... left ovary and breast have twinges of pain, nausea and general run down feeling. Took hpt, got a negative result.... very faint though. Any advice?

How long ahve you been taking the metformin? Sometimes doctors like to star out with a smaller dose and then increase it gradualy if you need it. I'm sorry I can't answer your TTC question. You might find some anwers on the TTC forum.

I thought prometrium was to induce AF, then after AF, you would use your induction for ovulation or check for signs for ovulation by traditional means, then BD for TTC...The metaformin though depends on your need based on your glucose levels, if you have relatively controlled blood sugars then low dosages are used to help with TTC, higher dosages like myself is because my IR is not under great control. I know when I start the Prometrium that I have on 10/01/05 (to keep better track), if the doctor will not prescribe clomid, I am going to try SOY on day 5-9 of AF, and then test for traditional signs for ovulation, it will be my first in going anything.

I also took Prometrium and it worked really well for me except that I also felt really bad cramping and It got so bad that I thought all of my insides were about to come out. I also felt really sleepy when I first took it but I was expecting that since my doctor told me that it was a side effect. Good luck.

I have been taking prometrium now for about a week. I started spotting 2 days ago and am assuming this is normal. AF isn't due for another week though. One question though has anyone had a really bad yeast infection from the prometrium? I don't know if its the cipro I was on for my kidney infection or the prometrium. Anyone else?

I have taken both prometrium and provera. With the prometrium I was so mean and nasty. My dh told me and the doc that I was not allowed to take that anymore. The provera i only used once. I didn't have any s/e. Oh with the prometrium I did get yeast infections. I think it was do to the hormone changes. The last two months AF has come on her own. Thank God. I hope this has helped.

Was it a one time yeast infection or did it come every month? It's weird because I have not had any other side effects besides this.
