Question prometrium vs provera

I have had problems when I have taken provera to "jump start" AF and My mom has recently told me about prometrium. Has anyone taken this instead of provera to get AF? I had a problem when taking provera of getting really depressed and getting anxiety, to the point of needing anxiety medical. I really would like some feed back before I start taking it because it's been 9 months since my last AF and I really want to get it before the new year.

I have not taken Prometrium; however, I am on my 8th day of Provera and although I do not have depression or anxiety I have other side effects that were horrible. I was very crampy, worse headaches I have ever had, nausea and dizziness.

I hope all is well and talk with your doctor, It never hurts to try.

I took prometrium last year and it was an absolute nightmare for me. I went into a major depression with suicidal thoughts, something that is NOT like me at all. I have had bouts with mild depression before, but I think that's part of all this hormonal crap with the PCOS that i'm going through. On Prometrium, it was 100 times worse and I was pulled off of it. My dr. then switched me to Provera, and I'll never take this again either. I did a 12 day course, last night being the last pill, and I almost went to the ER. I had a bout of chills, my temperature dropped to 97.1 and I was shivering uncontrollably for about an hour, then poof! it went away. I also had a major depression with it, anxiety, I've gained 8 pounds in 12 days and have never been so bloated in my life. I don't know what else I''ll be able to do if I have another anovulatory period and have to take something again to reset things.

Hi ladies-
I have taken both, and perfer the prometrium. Provera made me very moody and irritable along with severe cramping, gassy and bloated. The only bad thing I have noticed with prometrium is that my boobs are very tender and it takes a couple extra days for my period to start with prometrium. Provera I could count on the day after I took my last pill, with prometrium it is usually 2-3 days later.
Hope that helps a little.

I have only tried Prometrium and had nothing but a positive experience. I didn't feel extra moody and the only side effects I experienced were tender breasts and dizziness...but I took the pill right before bed so the dizziness didn't really affect me. Overall I would take prometrium again if I had to. Hope that helps anyone!

I have taken both and I think you can tell from everyones replies that it all depends on the person. Personally, I like the Prometrium. Not sure that I really had a problem with Provera, but I do notice with Prometrium I have less cramps.

Now that I am reading these other posts I think I was on Prometrium as well. I did complain about the side effects so my DR. switched me.
This makes sense now! That's why I found a bottle of Provera in the medicine cabinet yesterday. I stopped Provera from Prometrium. Wow.
It was so long ago I can't remember what the difference was. I had started to get AF on my own and was no longer taking anything then I had my laparoscopy and then we took a breakover the holidays. On Jan 1st I started a 10 perscription of Provera and unlike before I did not get AF on 3 days later. It's 8 days later today and still no AF. I am concerned beacuse I am trying to regulate so tha twe can try IUI in April.
Oh yes btw. Wicked, horrible side effects. Dizziness was the worst. Exhaustion came in a close second. Depression third.

I took prometrium and the only side effect was cramping when AF started. But I took it at night right before bed, so that may have helped. I would use it again if needed.

I agree that is person by person because PCOS is a not a one size fits for everyone. I did try prometrium and I didn't like it. I felt drunk, dizzy and my period were awful with crampy. It made me tired. This was also with a dr who didn't/wasn't aware of PCOS and kept telling me it was all in my head...lol. When to another doctor and she was the one that diagnosed me.
