Question pros and cons of spiro, please share

any info. i am currently trying an alternative remedy path after bad times with bcp and met. but i am still considering the option of spiro. my gynie suggested putting me on this awhile back but seemed reluctant. i have no weight problems. my main pcos problems are hirsutism and hairloss along with the usual pms/gynie issues. i have read that spiro can actually increase hairloss which is what happened when i was on met. so please share your good and bad stories or anything you've heard about spiro. i would like to get a better idea if this is an option down the road.

I have been on Sprinolactone for about 2 years now. I have seen a big difference. It takes a while to kick in. My issues were weith hairtruism not hair loss. I have not had any problems with it,

pros: does decrease hair growth (I can't speak on hair loss since I have been lucky enough to avoid this so far); no debilitating side effects;

cons: takes a long time to see results (they say six months... took a few more for me); I had to stop taking it due to having too much potassium in my system; need to be careful if you're ttc

I had no problems with it until the lab work said my potassium levels were too high. The only side effect was having to pee more since it's a diuretic, though it doesn't take long to get used to that. Good luck!

ive been on spiro about 6 years now. At first it messed my periods up - but after a few months they settled back down. To my normal anyway My endo said that spiro takes 9-12 months to get to maximum result

I started Spiro in Sept 2006 and it's worked well for me so far. When I first started, it made me very tired unless I was active. If I sat around too long, I would start nodding off a lot. After about a 2 months or so on 100mg I started to notice definite changes in my excess hair. Now about 5 months later, I can really tell a big difference. As far as my hair loss, I haven't noticed it getting any worse or better. I had better luck with hair growth when I was on Yasmin.
