When do the pros of metfomin outweigh the cons and how long does that take? I know everyone is different, but I'm tired of feeling sick to my stomach. I'm also really tired (I somewhat like that, since I used to be more of an insomniac, but I worry I won't be able to keep up with my kindergarten class when school starts in 2 weeks.) I've also had chest pain. I would think it could be heartburn, but I'm already on aciphex for reflux, and nothing seems to help it. I'm tired of it hurting to breath. I was just bad and didn't take my Met. last night at dinner or this morning at breakfast. The nausea went right away. I also made a Dr. apt. but that isn't for 2 more weeks. It does nothing to help me now. I can't decide if I want to take Met until then or not. It will be a new Dr. I got my Met. from my fertility dr. He referred me to another endocrinologist if I had trouble with Met. I don't get to go back to fertility until october.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!
The only thing that mattered to me in this situation was getting pregnant. This was what they told me I had to do. I don't think I would be doing it otherwise I mean, I'm almost 26, I've had the idea that I've got PCOS since I was in high school and that never motivated me to find out.
I didn't have too many stomach problems though, so I can't speak to how I would stick to it if I had to. It's just another pill to take at this point.
I'm not actually taking it to get pregnant. I did injectibles and an IUI for that, and it worked, I just miscarried. Dr. wants me to wait until October to try again. I liked the reduction in PCOS symptoms while on fertility meds. I'm taking Met. to try and reduce some of my PCOS symptoms between now and October when I can try again.

I'm so glad you posted this. I am done having kids and all I hear about are ladies taking met to conceive and I was wondering if my doc will even prescribe it for me if I don't want to get pregnant. Thanks, you answered my question!
Mikers, Maybe try backing off to a lower dose. One pill a day and seeing if you just need a few more weeks to get used to it. There are extended release tabs that are supposed to minimize side effects. Could you just call and talk to a nurse about switching to those??
I will be thinking of you. I also teach Middle School and the kids come back on Wednesday. I am thinking that it may be hard to get through the first few weeks so I'm not upping my dosage on Met for atleast another week.

Mikers, my body adjusted to Met by the 2nd week of taking it. Honestly, the nausea didn't really bother me because before my dx, I would get so sick after eating, nausea, dizziness, and turning ghostly white. And before actually giving me the rx for Met, my doctor asked me if I was TTC, and warned me about the fertility aspect of Met. FYI, I'm not TTC either, and I wouldn't dream of giving up my Met now.
As for the chest pains, you should definitely report that to your dr.
Julie - glad I could answer a question. I don't even have a plan to stay on Met. when I start injectibles again unless the Dr. wants it. I am just trying to get some symptoms under control.
Karen - good luck when your middle schoolers come back.
I am going to try backing off on my dosage, and working up a little more slowly. I started 1 pill for 5 days, then 2 pills for 4 days, then 3. I've been on 3 just over a week, and when I think about it, that is when the symptoms got worse. I was bad and just stopped taking it for a day, and ended up with a migraine yesterday, so back on the met I went. I'm just a mess. Can't wait until I get to see an RE. Thanks again for the replies.

Definately a lower does to build up........that's what I had to do. And then both times I got preg I had to go off since I was back to being incrediably nauseous. It was like when I first started out!
