As a medical asst in a urology office, I am well informed on Proscar and all of its uses. One thing that is STRONGLY discouraged is women even being near it. Trying to conceive or not. I asked our rep from Merck (the company that makes Proscar) what the indications were for prescribing it to women and he flipped out. They are really trying to squelch this problem of doctors giving it to women. They say that not only should women not take it but we should not even TOUCH it!! ESPECIALLY if you EVER want to try to conceive. Please really check into this before taking it.
Good luck....

I know exactly what you mean. Just reading through these message boards, I see how many conflicting things there are that all the doctors, drug companies, pharmacists and others tell us that, I don't know about you, but frusturates the hell out of me. If I were you and my doctor AND the website say that I should be okay....I would go with that. But the best thing I can tell you is go with your heart. As long as you have looked into things for yourself, go with what your gut tells you. If you were meant to have children, it will happen, no matter what the medical specialists tell you. I believe that we women that suffer daily with this would make the best mothers in the world. Only because we know how hard it is for us to conceive and cherish it so much more than the average women who takes her ability to reproduce for granted. If only it were that easy for us......
I just wanted to make sure that you were aware of the possible dangers of the Proscar and that you had looked into it. I didn't intend to frighten you! I just feel a bond with my fellow cysters and wanted to look out for you. I am kind of a dork like that...ha ha. Anyhow...I hope that whatever decision you make, it works for you and that you start to see improvement. Good luck.
nooo nena i hope i didnt make you feel bad..thats what we cysters are here for ..to tell all sides of the stories and all of our experiences..good and bad....
i think i am going to hold off on the proscar and see what adding avandia to my glucophage does for me...since my hair isnt THAT bad cept in the front.. i will hold off..
i just hate that taking care of ourselves can be so confusing..i mean they can get a man to the moon..but no one call just tell us point blank the best treatment or the best diet..its not fair... cause we are all so different...
so THANK YOU for giving me a heads up.. i appreciate it..i notice you are new here..welcome... i hope you are finding what you need? xoxo jenn

Noooo....no hard feelings at all. I am not really that new to the site....it is just that I really don't post that often. I also didn't come back to it for a long time. But I love this site....it helps knowing how many other women there are out there who suffer right along with me.
I don't deal as much with hair loss as I do with an abundance of it everywhere else!! My question was, "how come you can turn a man into a woman with horomone therapy, but you can't make me, a born woman, look like one?" Grrr.....
Oh, modern medicine, how you piss me off. Ha ha/
