Default Prospect of Surrogacy

Hello,

I have been TTC for nearly 2 years and have recently been diagnosed with PCOS. I have an appointment with a specialist in 2 weeks. I have scowed the web for all sorts of information, that both informed and scared me over the past few months while i have been waiting. I have kept my problem pretty private but told a few close people to me about my troubles. One of my close friends has offered, quite strongly, that she would either do egg donation, or surrogacy, whatever we needed to get our family. I was blown away by that, and have been in shock that someone would do something so big. I am in shock also that it could come to this. My question to you all, is whether or not this is a real option that we should consider down the road, or that there is good hope to do this on our own? PCOS has high miscarriage rates, correct? Her offering this really hit it home how sad this whole thing is that I may have to resort to having someone else carry a child. I know this is a pretty subjective question, but I have read a lot of the posts on here, and value some feedback from people going through the same process.

Thank you very much.

I think the option of surragocy is awesome! I was just diagnosed with uterus cancer and had to remove my uterus, I have had tons of family and friends offer the same thing. I looked into surragocy and luckily I was able to keep my ovaries so that is a option for me in the future. To have a friend offer that to you is amazing.

You can also get alot of information from the specialist you are seeing that could help you to become pregnant with your husband. PCOS does have a higher rate of miscarriage if it is untreated, if you are taking medication I have read up that the miscarriage rate is usually the same as a normal pregnancy. But I believe your doctors could answer that question for you.

Having someone else carry your baby would be a sacrifice on their part, but you would be involved with them the whole way through it. I believe it is a option that we all have, and it is our own choice to make, whether we are comfortable with it or not.

I hope this helps you out?

Hi there,

I think it is an option and it is great that you had someone offer if needed. That being said, there are many treatments for PCOS women wanting to get pg. I hope you find a good specialist that has a good understanding of PCOS. Also, I don't think the miscarraige rate is that much higher, part of it, may be the fact that women who have fertility issues are more aware of their bodies and what is happening. Many really early miscarraiges happen without anyone knowing.

Check out the ttc boards on here...there is a lot of information and a ton of women who are awesome.

good luck

Taking Metformin during pgs, reduces the m/c rate to that of the normal population. There are so many treatments and medications available now. As you can see, I have benefited from them!! Good luck!

I've honestly thought I about being a surregot mother. I loved being pregnant. I offered to be on for a good friend I used to work with, but unfortunatly it would have been to expensive.
Don't give up on the thought of becoming preggers. I got "knocked up" even though I hadn't had a period for a year. It's funny I wanted one so bad and nothing was happening, so when I pushed it to the back of my mind saying, "okay, right now may not be the best time" due to have a LEEP I was shocked that a month later the HPT came back with a BFP. We had to get an early ultrasound done just to see how far along I was lol!
The moral of the story is, relax and enjoy your time with your significant other. The more you stress the harder it becomes. If you have to have someone else carry for you so be it! Weither your the carrier or not your still going to love that child like nothing else matters!
I wish you luck and lots and lots of babydust!!!!

Thank you very much for your responses. They have helped me.
All this waiting is killing me, but I know I need to be patient.

I took Met for a year before I conceived our daughter on day 53 of my cycle. This after I'd already sobbed my heart out thinking Id' never get pregnant or if I did, I'd miscarry. So you never know how it will turn out.

If having a bio child was not possible for us, I would have preferred adoption than surrogacy. We are content with the one, but if we change our minds I think it is more likely that we will adopt rather than have another bio child. There are many children already born that need homes.
