Unhappy Provera?

Hi I am new to Soulcysters. I was just diagnosed on October 15,2008. My husband and I are TTC. I had some blood tests done and everything was normal except for the LH which was 82.6. My Dr. started me on provera and I'm supposed to take it for 10 days for three months and then start on clomid. I'm a little confused about all of this, what exactly is provera supposed to do and can I get pregnant while taking it? Any answers would be great. Thanks!

Provera is a synthetic progesterone. You take it for ten days, and it fools your body into thinking you have Ov'ed. When you finish the pills you will get a bleed from your body going through progesterone withdrawal (Which is exactly what it does when you get a normal period. Except in this case your body did not Ov, and you did not produce the progesterone. It's all fake.)

You should get your period (AF) within 2 weeks after stopping the pills. If you don't, call your doctor.

I don't exactly understand why your doctor want you to wait three months to start Clomid after that... but maybe it's because your LH was so high. Maybe he's hoping it goes down, and your body rests.

You can not get pregnant while on Provera, your body shouldn't Ov while your on a sythetic Progesterone. Provera does not cause Ov. Sometimes a woman will Ov after taking Provera, but the Provera is not an Ov inducing drug.

I recommend checking out "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" by Toni W.
This book will familiarize you with hormones during Ov, and what they do. It also has a lot of information about charting Basal Body Temperature (BBT), which I recommend. It's easy to do, cheap, and you should be able to see if you Ov and when if you do. The book also has information about charting cervical mucous and cervical position if your interested in that. I don't do it, but it is interesting to know.

Best wishes on your TTC journey. Make sure you educate yourself. Your doctor will not always know best, look things up, find some resourceful books, and go on a learning spree. You won't regret it. And don't be afraid to question your doctor if you don't understand something, or if you disagree. Be your own advocate. Remember, you're paying to be there.
