Question Provera

I have been taking provera for a while now. And it just occured to me that I am not sure if I am suppose to take a preg test every month. Does anyone know if you are suppose to? I remember my dr. saying that you can't start taking it if you are pregnant. It just got me to thinking. Thanks for any help.

I would suggest it. Provera is listed as a Pregnancy Category X drug, meaning if you're pregnant, you should not be taking it because it can cause defects with the developing baby.

If you like Provera, and want to stick with it, then I would suggest that if your periods are late each month, then take a pregnancy test before taking the Provera.

If you want to use something that's safer if you do become pregnant, and you won't have to take a pregnancy test each month. I would suggest switching over to Prometrium. It's a Pregnancy Category B drug, meaning it's safe to take while pregnant.

HTH.

I have been on Provera a few times. You MUST take a pregnancy test before you start another Provera cycle. Provera is to make you ovulate, well if you ovulate you can get pregnant. Provera can cause a miscarriage if taken while pregnant. A quick call to the Dr. can answer you officially, but I just went to the dr. and was started Provera again and Clomid. First thing I have to do is take a pregnancy test before I start Provera every month
