Default Provera and Acne

I'm a newbie! I was diagnosed with PCOS several days ago (sigh) and the doctor prescribed Provera tablets to me in order to induce menstruation. I was on BCP for several years and experienced regular periods during that time, but ever since coming off in January, haven't had a single period! I've been told that I will have my period several days following a 10-day cycle of Provera. I'm very sensitive about my skin, and am worried about Provera causing a huge breakout. It would be devastating for me, on top of the diagnosis. As Provera is essentially progestin, would it cause or increase acne? Has anyone ever taken Provera, and were there effects in terms of acne? Please let me know, thanks!

Hi there

I personally didnt have problems with acne flare ups when I was taking Provera. I didnt even know that was a symptom of using Provera, to be honest.

The only real problem I had with taking Provera was having major mood swings.

Like Rapunzel, I never had problems with acne on Provera, but it did give me terrible mood swings!

I just finished taking my 10 day cycle of provera. I noticed that I broke out a bit, mainly on my forehead. I felt like I was hitting puberty again, and talk about tender breasts/nipples. I wouldn't let my hubby touch my chest. I almost put the kitten through the wall when she jumped on the bed and walked across my chest. But not much on the mood swings. Just tender and muscle achy, I think it had to do with giving my hormones a jolt. (I've not had my period since Feb 2003! But now that I've got my period my breasts are not as tender and the pimples are pretty much gone. Oh the only thing...I felt tired alot. All things I noticed after day two or three on provera. It was the only med I was taking so it's the only thing I can contribute those changes to.
Hope this helps! In the end I think it will be worth it.
Let me know how you do.
Amy
