Default Provera...can someone PLEASE tell me...

This may sound stupid...but can someone PLEASE tell me what exactly provera is? My doc just prescribed it for me and (as you can tell from my long rant in the trying to conceive board)...he doesn't tell me much. =\ Anyways...is provera just the same as progesterone? As in...it's just a med to help me bleed and have a period, but not necessarily help me ovulate or my chances of getting pregnant?!?

Thanks for your help!!
Tibby <-- soooo confused =(

Provera is taken from progesterone. But it's used to start your period, not help you ovulate. When I take it, I start Clomid during the cycle. Take it at night. It helps with the side effects. The last couple of times I have taken it, I did not have any problems, but my doctor gave me bcp to start the last time.

Provera is a synthetic progesterone. It's taken just to make you bleed...won't make you ovulate. If you haven't had a period, your doc may have you take it to cause a bleed to shed your uterine lining, to start Clomid, to start the pill...that sort of thing.
