Question Provera didn't induce period!

My GYN put me on Provera, albeit only 1 pill a day for 5 days.

Well that was 2 weeks ago. I haven't had a period yet.

What in the world is going on? I read something about having low estrogen levels if you don't have a period after a progesterone challenge.

Any suggestions?

Most people take 1 pill a day for 10 days or 2 pills a day for 5. It can take up to two weeks -- call your doctor if no AF in 2-3 days. You may need a higher dose to grow enough lining.

Good luck!

Arrow Hrm.

Oh dear lord. That stuff was horrible. When I FINALLY got my period it was so bad that my mother wanted to take me to the ER. It was horrible. I just laid there and looked horrendous for days. I could barely walk. Ugh. I took 1 a day for 10 days. Blech. I hope that the stuff works for you, but not in the way it did for me.

Did they tell you how long till AF would show up afterwards? If you've passed the deadline I'd give the ob/gyn a buzz and ask what next.

I'd also suggest giving your OB a call! My doctor had me on it for 10 days and I was to call if AF didn't show by 10 days after the last pill. (mine showed 12 days after)

Hope all is well and AF finds you soon!

I only took 1 pill a day for 7 days and it did take about 16 days for AF to arrive after the last pill

Like the others said give it a couple of days more then ring your dr if no AF, everyone is different you may need a higher dose or just to wait a day or so more

Good Luck

Mamatomaya:

Did you call the ob/gyn yet? Any response from dr./nurse? Just curious and hope they've figured things out for you!! Good luck.

MissMel:
7/17 is my bday... :-) But I don't want to share, am glad that there is such a low risk of the baby ACTUALLY coming on the EDD.

The only time I didn't get my period after taking Prometrium (non-synthetic Provera), I found out I was pregnant. Is that a possibility for you? I took one pill daily for 10 days, though, so maybe your dose wasn't high enough.

My RE had me on Provera 1 pill a day for 10 days. I took last pill 7 days ago and have had smudgies. I was put on provera though to stop heavy bleeding that had lasted from Feb. 10 to March 3 so the RE said that I may not have much of a period this month as there probably isn't a lot in there.

Don't know if this helps you but all of you have with your info on provera.

Amy, have you gotten your period yet? Just from experience, I was told by numerous obgyns over the years that if you don't get a period via Provera, then your ovaries may not be 'working'. From what I remember, my docs always said, "ok, if you're getting a period after a provera trial, then we know your ovaries are working"...

Let us know how goes

mama2amaya I hope your doc has some thought. Have you take at PG test to see if you are pregnant?

I've taken 1 pill for 5 days and 1 pill for 7 days and they both worked for me. AF showed up within 3 days.

I hope this isn't too personal and this may be too much info. But I'm hoping you all don't mind answering.

What exactly do you all call a normal period on provera? My last doctor told me if I had any blood at all, just to consider that a period while I was on the pill. My new doctor put my on provera, yet he just said it would come. I take 5mg for 12 days. I don't have anything like what most of you describe. I have what I call anything from spotting to an extremely light period for 12-14 days with maybe 2 days of a medium flow period during that time. I don't have the heavy bleeding nor the horrible cramps like I keep reading that other people have. I don't mean to sound paranoid, but I went from a heavy period that went on forever in my youth to a period that never came in my 20s, to some spotting now. I have no clue what "normal" is supposed to be.

I have wondered if I should ask if I need a higher dose, but I don't want to do that unless I absolutely have to because I've had more energy, had a better mood, and have overall felt better in the last 3 months than I have in years. If I need more I don't care to take it, but I fear if I do, I risk making all the good stuff worse.

Shannon -- it could be totally normal for you to have a couple of days of spotting, and then medium flow for a couple of days. I have also never had horribly heavy periods or unbearable cramping with Prometrium -- come to think of it, I'm pretty sure that I have worse cramps when my body cooperates and I do ovulate. I'm pretty sure that what you're experiencing is OK, but if you're really concerned about it, ask your doctor.

'normal' to me is a period, 7 days, cramping and all, cleaning me out.
Haven't got mine either, obgyn says 'you don't have to get a period', so where to go/what to do from here or do nothing..
Good luck ladies, I ain't having any!
