Default Provera and No AF !!

Just a little background - I was diagnosed with PCOS about 10 years ago but had been on BCP to regulate my cycle. I got off because I believe they brought on depression and a general crazy feeling in me! I felt so great the past 6 months I've been off them, but did not have a period in all that time. My doc prescribed Provera to bring on a period.

My LMP was 11/1/07. I finished a 10mg dose of Provera on 4/4/08. It has now been 10 days ... and no AF!!! Not even the slightest bit of spotting or anything. I don't even FEEL like it's coming. My doctor said that it should come anytime from 3-10 days. I've taken Provera in the past (many years ago) and it always jump-started AF after a few days (I think it may have even once started while I was still taking the Provera!)

Has this happened to anyone else? What did they do to remedy the situation? I would rather not have to take another round of Provera because it made me extra emotional and moody. I spoke with the NP at the office today and she said that if I don't get AF by Thursday (14 days) then I should take a HPT... if it's positive, then that will be my answer (I am not actively TTC, but there is a very, very slight possibility that I could be preg). If not, then they will have me come in to do an u/s and blood work. Has anyone else had a similar situation? What happened?

I did a round of provera after not having a period for over 6 months, and no period came. When I had a ultrasound done at the RE office he said it was b/c I had no lining to shed, so the provera wouldn't work on me. Anyway, I was trying to have a baby so he just started me on the clomid, which ended up being a failed round so my period came like a normal person (on it's own).

maybe you should try a natural progersterone? my RE prefers them but they are alot more expensive than provera and i have no drug plan.

I've only ever done 1 round of provera in my life and it took 16 days for AF to come. I thought for sure it hadn't worked and was going to go back to the doctor but after 16 days she came...and then I ended up PG after that cycle so that's probably why it was my one and only round lol

Well it finally did come, just as an update! It took 13 days!! At least I know it worked... though when I've taken it in the past, AF came after only like 3 days! My crazy body!

I took provera for a few years and it never helped me once. My uterus lining is really thin so maybe thats why it didn't help me. I also had bad side effects like really bad hot flashes and bad mood swings. Now I finally am taking prometruim which hopefully will help.

I'm on my last day of the 10 provera routine. No signs or symptoms of AF yet. I havent seen or heard from AF since 10/07. I never in my life thought I would want to have AF visit so bad.

Another question, does the provera actually help you to become more fertile? I've read a couple of post on here saying that they have become pregnant after 1 round of provera and was just curious how many cysters this has happened to.

I heard that it does not make you more fertile. It is possible to ovulate on your own, however. I am also taking HPT's before I start each round, because developmental delays are possible if you are pg and keep taking the Provera. Everyone is different. I'm just hoping I am one of those who ovulates on my own and gets pg on the first round Good luck!

Cool

I have taken Provera in the past and AF would always come while I was still taking them...This time they gave me Prometrium which is progesterone too No AF at all I called after two weeks they got me in did a U/S no wonder I had nothing to shed so they started me on Femara 2.5mg two everday for 5 days and I just took a progesterone lab test today I hope I O'd! Oh and my RE told me not to waste money on OPK's most PCOS women have high LH and will get false positives. I hope this helps.
