Red face Provera question!

Hi girls! I hope you guys can give me some advice on something

My gyno recently prescribed me 7 days of Provera and BCPs. She told me to take the Provera and then start BCPs once I got my period. However, the period that Provera gave me has been...hardly a period at all! The lightest period of my life...I don't even think it qualifies as a period. Also what has been showing has been very dark. I think this is kind've strange since I got my period only 2 months ago and I've been on Provera in the past and it gave me a normal period.

Anyways, my question is...should I just start the BCPs? or should I call my doctor and ask her what is going on? Also if Provera doesn't work...what does this mean?

Any advice/answers would be much appreciated

How long after taking the provera did the really light af start? Is it brown or red? (sorry if tmi) It can take 2-14 days before can arrive after taking provera. I took a 10 day supply of provera 10mg, my last dose was on 7/23. On 7/25-7/27 I spotted brown, only there when I wiped..never touched a pad. The following week I started spotting again, same thing. Brown, super light, only there when I wiped. 14 days exactly from my last dose on 8/6 a full flow af finally arrived for the first time in 85 days (yes, I'm anal...I counted back to see how long it took).

I did contact my doctor after the first round of spotting and was told to count that as af. However, I didn't think that was the case personally. My af's are never ever that light. His answer was any bleeding is a good thing. school. If you aren't sure don't hesitate to call you doctor. I was uncertain what to do because it was the first time I had taken anything to induce af. If it was me...If your light period was brown, not red and it has not been 14 days since your last dose of provera I would hold out to see if you get a full flow. I'm not a doctor though, I just wanted to disclose that. This is just my opinion.

Thanks I think I am going to take your advice and wait. I called the nurse at my gyno's office and she also said it counted as AF. However, my period was exactly like you said...very light and brown. I will wait another week and see what happens!

Thanks again

You can probably count it as AF and start the BCP. Some people who don't get AF just start BCP then when teh pack is done they get AF. But if you feel better waiting then I understand.

If your doctor told you to count it then you probably should. The reason I dismissed what my doctor said was because 1 1/2 weeks later real af came. It was exactly 14 days since my last dose of provera...to the day. However, I wasn't waiting for af to start bcp. I was waiting so I could chart my bbt because we are ttc. =) Like I said I'm not a doctor, I dunno if I would trust me, it's my uneducated opinion! hehe

I'm taking my first 7 days of Provera (I normally take 10 days to make myself have a cycle), so I'll keep you posted!!

When I took Provera the first time, it was before using bcp. My period has dwindled down to being very light anyway, and up until a year or so ago, I never had periods without some kind of hormonal boost.

My doctor told me to consider any blood, no matter how little, as a period and just start the bcp after that.

As for it being dark, that's probably because you haven't had a period in so long. Happened to me that time when I was using provera to jumpstart a period after I hadn't had one in 4 months.

I have had two round of Provera so far. Both times I had the light spotting, just when I wiped, and then on day 13 or 14 came the gusher. Once was in November and then just last month. My doc says that if you haven't had a cycle in a while, it can take a while to start, and then it can be particularly hard when it happens. I am on my third month of it now.

Also, I take it monthly and I called my doc and asked if I should wait until after AF stopped to start the next course. The doc says no, stay on track because that is helping to regulate the hormones. Maybe you should call. The nurse thought it was a perfectly normal question and the doc was very sure that I should keep the timing just right when she called.
