Default Provera question

I'm new to this message board, so I apologize if I have posted in the incorrect area or am asking a question that has been asked before.

I was diagnosed with PCOS a few years ago after mentioning to my doctor my normally irregular periods had stopped for 4 months. After a pelvic ultrasound showing polycystic ovaries and a thickened uterine lining (along with a failed glucose tolerance test) I was put on Metformin and after a month or so my periods started back up, but still irregular. Fast forward to 5 months ago when my periods stopped again. After another pelvic ultrasound showing polycystic ovaries and a thickened uterine lining AGAIN my doctor put me on 10mg of Provera for 10 days. The day before I started the new medication I started a very light period. I called my doctor and she said to still take it. After the first pill, the bleeding stopped. I am on day 3 of Provera and I've started what seems to be an actual period. Has anyone experienced this? Is it a period, perhaps?

(I also have elevated prolactin and underactive thyroid, but both are under control)

Thanks for any insight in advance!
