My doctor as put me on Provera, I have not had AF since May 2003. My husband and I are TTC, and I have taken all 10 days of Provera and Still nothing? I am new to this and do not know what to do next. When should you start AF after being on Provera??

Gina- Whenever I took Provera my gyn always told me I should start AF within 7 days of my last pill. I usually started about 3-4 days after my last pill. Now I am seeing an RE and he has chosen to induce AF by prescribing Prometrium. With the Prometrium I usually start 1 day after my last pill (I've thaken the Prometrium for 2 "cycles"). When did you take your last pill???

I took my last pill yesterday, I just feel real confused, I have heard that even if you get AF after taking Provera, I does not mean that your ovualatiing. How can we concieve if im not even ovulating?

As far as I know, Provera does not aid in inducing ovualtion. So, if/when you get AF after taking Provera (or Prometrium) it is not really a "cycle" and you most likely didn't ovulate, you have AF from withdrawl from the progestrone in the medication. Has your doc discussed trying Clomid??? It is usually the first choice to aid in ovulation, although it is yet to get me to O. I sure hope AF arrives soon so you can start a new cycle!

I was just wondering what your plan is once you start AF? Are you taking any medications.?

Gina- What kind of doctor are you seeing now?? The reason I ask is because I spent several years seeing just my GP and gyn. Neither of them ever acted like any of my symptoms were anything to be concerned about & neither of them ever mentioned PCOS. My gyn just told me that when we had really started TTC that I might need clomid, but he didn't indicate any problem. At that point I did some research on the web about clomid and about amenorrhea, but that was in 1997 & I didn't find anything about PCOS. Well, this is getting to be pretty long, so I'll cut to the chase. In January of this year I finally decided that enough was enough. I had just finished my 4th round of clomid through my gyn with no O & finally decided to do some additional research on my own. I found info about PCOS & was like that is totally me. I approached my GP about it & he simply said something like "could be PCOS or Syndrome X". Rrrrrrrrrrr. Well, finally I got a referral to an RE who put me on met.
I guess telling all that was really really not necessary, but I am trying to make a point...I'm going to be 30 in January and I feel like I wasted too much time with my other Dr's. So, if you're not getting the level of treatment you feel like you want or need then move on to a different doctor. You are already a step ahead of where I was because you found this site, but don't waste time with a Dr who doesn't really seem to be at the same place you are or shooting for the same goal. Good luck to you-

I agree with Dazed and Confused. I did 3 clomid cycles with my gyno and no O. He referred me to an RE who gave me the dx and put me on Met...well really Gluc xr.
I wasted 6 months, plus 3 months waiting to get in to see the RE. He was very helpful and understanding. More importantly, he was aggressive about testing and treatments for pg!

I usually get my AF abotu 3-4 days after Provera is done, but it can take up to 2 weeks.
Provera does not induce ovulation, but some women will begin to have AF on their own again after getting a "jump start" from the Provera. That may be why your Doc is asking you to hold tight. If nothing happens this month, your Doc may give you Provera again to start a period, and then a few days after you get AF you would start taking Clomid, to make you ovulate.
Best wishes and please keep us updated!
This was a helpful post for me to read. I am having the same issues with prometrium. AF never seems to come at the same time twice with me and this medication. The first few times I took it I only got spotting. Last month I had a "normal" AF about 7 days after my last pill. This month, I started AF with 3 pills left to go?? I am concerned if I take Clomid now I will have jumped the gun and won't O?? Any thoughts? I will try to call my RE today, he is great.
It took me 7-14 days to start af with Provera. I took Clomid after that but it didnt work for me. I didnt O at all by my temp's. I never had af on my own with Clomid eiter which is another indicator of PCOS.
I would take the Clomid on day 3 of Af even if you didnt finish all of the Prometrium. I had to do that one month myself.
I have been on Provera for almost 2 months now without stopping. It took about a month to start working, but now that it has I'm already sick of it. I have never had af on my own so I'm just getting used to having it this long. I've had them on birth control, but never like this. Anyone else get major cramping? I have hyperplasia so that is why I have been taking them so long, but I've been miserable. Anyone else have the same problem?
