Smile Provera Question

I am taking my first round of Provera to induce a period (my current cycle is at 76 days and counting, so my ob wants to move things along). My question is, is Provera the same kind of progesterone that pg ladies with PCOS sometimes take at the beginning of their pregnancies? I've read that lots of women are taking progesterone suppositories, and I'm just wondering if it's all the same. Also, the warnings with Provera state not to take if pg or if trying to get pg. Once I've induced a period and start a new cycle, will it be ok for me to go on and take clomid and resume ttc? Thanks for any words of wisdom!

Steph

The progesterone supplements that women take when they're first pregnant is not Provera - actually, doctors play on the safe side with Provera and don't want you to take it if you are pregnant. From my understanding, it's such a potent form of progesterone that it can cause problems to the little baby. The supplements they give you are usually a suppository or a pill, but I think it's a less potent form.

Starting Provera to bring on a period, even when TTC, is totally normal, though - lots of women do it, so don't worry about that. You'll take it, have your period, take your clomid, and hopefully end up with some rice growing in your tummy!

Hope this helps - if you have any other questions, go visit the TTC board here at soulcysters. It's visited really often and there are some super nice, helpful, and smart women over there who can answer the most random questions.

Good luck!
