I started a 2nd round of Provera at the beginning of December. I figured it would be like the last time I took it (August) and AF shows up six days after last pill. Not this time. Now it has been thirteen days since last pill and no AF. Is this normal? I am just so frustrated! I am 100% certain that I am not pregnant. Anyone else experience this?

never had that issue... maybe you need a higher dose or need to take it for longer? Have you had a beta?
I took the Provera for ten days. I am certain that I'm not pg since my last AF was Aug.9 and I have been using a two forms of b/c. Well, actually three because either dh is out of town or ds is sick. I had a beta done last month because my endo could not figure out why I am not getting AF since my hormone levels were normal. I have been reading about low estrogen and know that she did not test for estradiol levels. I have night sweats and bad headaches. I thought that maybe I was going through peri-menopause, but my FSH was 4.4. Who knows?

Hi,
I am currently going through the same thing! It has been 20 days since my last provera and nothing. I am working with a RE and am on 1000 mg of metformin for my high testsosterone levels. I did my blood work after 16 days and my estrogen came back low (57) and my progesterone was non detectable. I am at a very highly respected clinic in Mass. and they made it seem that while it is unusal for provera not to work (95%) effective, it obviously does not work for some. The doctors seem to think that it is a fuction of my very very high testosterone which is in turn not allowing my other hormones to work effectively. So the new plan is to start desogen for 14 days, get my estrogen up, induce a bleed and do clomid from that. I spoke with some people over at Cornell IVF clinc and they said that they do this protocol for women who "fail" the progesterone withdrawl.
It is always something right!
Let me know if you have any other questions. We sound like we are quite similar (I have a 2.5 year old DD)

Wow, that sounds just like me with regards to the Provera! It is good to hear that there are other options to induce a period. Is your testosterone still high? My testosterone is now below 30 (total) and this has my endo stumped. She thought it was possibly a pituitary tumor, but an MRI ruled that out. I see her on the 16th and will ask about testing for estrogen and progesterone levels. Did your doctors say what else could keep Provera from working? My problems with the irregular AF started after having ds. Thank you for that information! I will definately mention this to my endo.

Well the other things that it could be you have ruled out (diminished ovarian reserve, but your FSH is perfect at 4.4 and a pituitary tumor). I would guess that this lack of a bleed is a function of your PCOS, even if your testosterone is normal (I have not retested mine, but it was unbelievably high previously). My nurse was explaining that PCOS is an issue with multiple hormones, and even having one of them out of whack can impact the functioning of your cycle. I would call now and ask for you estrogen and progesterone to be tested now, as it will give you some conceret information to work from for your appt on 1/16. As mine was so low,I really can not have a bleed, as estrogen is what builds up your endometrium to have a period. I hope that the desogen wil help bring up my estrogen levels to a level at which I can have a period and then do clomid off that period. It has been quite frustrating and disheartening, but hopefully we will both get there on the right dose of medication!
Take care.

Hi bjs!
I just got back from my yearly exam with a new Ob/gyn. Acutally she's a Certified Nurse Midwife with a lot of experience with PCOS patients. I told her my whole story and she said the exact same thing! She had blood drawn for progesterone and estrogen. She kinda feels that I really need to be on an insulin sensitizing drug (metformin). I explained that during my pregnancy I gained a huge amount of weight and that my son, born at 37 weeks, was nearly 10 lbs. There is no family history on either mine or dh's side of large babies. She felt that I probably had developed gestational diabetes towards the end of pregnancy and this could have led to the problems I am now having. My former ob/gyn never gave me any news on any test results unless they were abnormal. I knew it was time to find someone else when his nurse said some of my results were misplaced. This whole experience has been like trying to unlock a door and each key doesn't work. I hope the desogen works for you. I so know what you mean about all this being frustrating. I don't want my son to be only child and I feel with each normal test result I take two steps forward and one step back. It sounds like we both have great dr's and hopefully like you said we will both get there!

It sounds like you had a great appointment! I am glad that your nurse was knowledgable about PCOS, because not all providers know what they are doing with us women I am currently on Met, and while the side effects are somewhat annoying they are worth it if it can "normalize" my hormones.
Please keep in touch. I will keep you updated as I go through this cycle. I also have fears of my DD being my only, but my faith in modern medicine keeps me going!
Take care.
