My Dr gave me Provera 10 mg for 10 days on March 1st. Well on March 9/10 AF showed up and is still going strong. What side effects did you all experience? I have had nausea and some horrible cramps. Today I started having some pretty good size clots (sorry if that is TMI) and bright red blood. Should I be worried or try to contact my Dr???
I would say that if it's concerning you, then by all means call your doctor. That's what they're there for.
I think as for the length of this period and the passing clots, I guess it depends on how long you've gone without having a period...it's getting all the old stuff out, ya know? I just started a round of prometrium, so in about a week or so I'm sure I'll be in the same boat as you are now...it's been 3 months since I've had a period. Not really looking forward to that!
Sorry I don't have more advice, if I were you I'd call the doc if you're concerned about it.
Good luck, and hope you feel better soon!

Thanks for the reply. Well I went 3 years without AF, yea I know that is a LONG time. I was thinking it is just the old stuff, but it is the bright red stuff that concerns me.
My first period after taking Provera, was a period from Hell.. I speant the first 2 days literally in bed unable to move, Hubby had to help me to the bathroom I was in so much pain. and on Day 2 of AF I was sooooo heavy, I was going through a pad AND tampon an hour, it was not fun at all, but when I mentioned it to my dr he said it can be normal if you havnt had a period in quite a while, because its like built up or whatever, im now going through cycle 4 with Provera, and last AF only lasted 4 days, was very light, and barley anypain at all..... so they will get better,
sometimes the blood is brighter then others, I find now they are "brighter" then when I had my first period with provera, but if you are concerned, definatly give your dr a call

Well that is good to know. I have had some horrible cramps!!!! I was really heavy on Thur night/ Fri morning. I was going through a super tampon and leaking onto a pad about every hour and a half. But the Fri around 12 it let up and I was only wearing a pad and it was fine. I thought I was going off, and then I woke up this moring around 3:30 and had the huge clots and bright red blood. I was a little worried and my Dr office is not open today I will call him Mon if it is still going on.
I would add that if your insurance has some kind of 'hotline' or something, like with a nurse on call service or something to use that this weekend...just to get a professional opinion on it. Or call your local emergency room and ask to talk to one of the nurses about it. Again, that's what they're there for, and that might be useful to put your fears at ease. I know I wouldn't want to wait if I was worried about it all weekend. Just my opinion again.

Well I am a nurse and I work at the local hospital, that is one reason I havent called them yet. I work in L&D with my Gyn, I thought about calling the L&D and tell them to tell him to give me a call when he comes in, but I am not sure if that is crossing the line or not
I had the same thing ashlee, but by all means if it bothers you call your dr. The reason for the clots is because you body can't produce fast enough the anti coagilants to stop it from clotting.
I didn't worry to much mine last a total of 13 days! from spotting to the end of my period. and i had some heavy cramps it was rather interesting.
Now this will probably sound gross but i found having sex helped with the cramps as well as causing the my period to speed up a bit. but word of advise do it in the shower. Clean up much eazier
blessed be

The same happened to me as well ... I never had any symptoms during the 10 days I took it, but boy did the cramps start rolling in about 2 days before AF came! It was heavy and a dark dark red in color and then after a few days BOOM it was bright red and very clotty ... I was very concerned and called my GYN's office ... I explained the situation to his nurse and she reassured me that because I hadn't reallyhad a good period in like almost 2 years, that it was taking all the crap out the first few days and the new stuff was after that ...
But if you are still concerned, call your dr and speak with him ...
Well I waited it out and the flow has slowed way down just like it did the other day. I think this may be the end of it though. If it is still up I will call him on Mon. Thanks for the advice and support though!
Well last night after I posted that I went to bed. Well I woke up this morning to a nice little mess I dont know what is going on. When I went to bed it was so little that I thought about not wearing a pad, and then when I woke up I had completely saturated a overnight extra long maxi and also on my panties and sleep pants I am about to lose my mind. I had more huge clots this time they were about the size a a half dollar piece. I am definetly calling my Dr tomorrow AM even if all he does tell me is that it is normal, he is going to know about it.
Ughhhh!! It's been happening to me too! I know it is due to the fact that I took 20 mg of Provera for 21 days after my D&C to hold off AF so that we could start Clomid this cycle.
I've slept in my bed 2 of the last 10 nights - both times waking to a mess and freaking out! The clotting has been awful - some of the biggest clots (sorry TMI) I have ever-ever seen! Even though AF seems to have slowed a bit Saturday and today, I'm too scared to sleep in my bed - I don't ever want that to happen again! So, for now - until she is gone... I'm sleeping on the couch, sitting up and wearing a tampon and TWO pads!
Will I take it that long again?? Not sure... The thing is I just finished my 2nd 50 mg round of Clomid Saturday, since March 5th - yes, I said SECOND ROUND since March 5th - we think my doc missed my original CD1 and started me too early, but that's a whole other story! If this round or 2 rounds of Clomid rather, don't work this cycle - I am not so sure that I'll be ready to take Provera again if I have to indure the days of being in constant pain like I have this month - I'll seriously have to think long and hard about it first.
Sorry so long - I got carried a way! LoL
Ashlee - let us know what your doc says - when I told mine she pretty much said it was normal. *sigh*

Yea I am using the green super absorbent kind! These last 14 days I have used a whole box of Tampons which was 40, a whole bag of maxi pads (24) and a smaller bag (10) of overnight super absorbent, super long pads.
I finally called my drs nurse yesterday to see if this was normal, she said that she would talk to the fill in doc and call me back. My reg dr is out of town on vacation, I knew he was going and should have called sooner.
The thing that is weird is that the flow will almost stop and then I start flooding again with huge clots and bright red blood. Soo I am going to call her back tomorrow and see what she found out. I have been doing this for a week so I want to know what is going on.
I get provera now and then, to bring on a period...I get a week of hot flushes, sore boobs, night sweats and twinges in my pelvic area and back AND THEN about a day before I show, I get the most almighty of mood swings....just so depressed and irrational, I can't explain it.
The actual period is always heavy but I only get sore cramps for the day before and a couple of days after.
I believe that many women get this pleasure every month......I can only say that, for me, one of the only joys of having PCOS is NOT getting a period every month!! I am due to start another weeks course of provera today so woe betide anyone who comes near me in 2 weeks!!
