Anyway, I'm posting because I am worried about starting a round of Provera for the first time. I have two intensely busy weeks of work starting up, and I'm really concerned that it will make those weeks even worse than they are.
I haven't had AF in 14 months, so I'm long overdue. Basically I'm really worried about having one during such a busy time.
For those who have taken Provera, would you recommend waiting until life slows down? Or should I just take it? What kinds of side effects have you had?
The only side effect I get from it is getting tired, so I take it in the evening. For me, I usually get af 3-4 days after taking the last pill ( I take 10 mg , 1 a day for 10 days). That is pretty typical. There are some here who have gotten it sooner and some later. I would say to start it in 1 week so you won't get af during this hectic time. I will more than likely come after that and by then you will be able to handle it. Sometimes, especially after not having af for such a long time, your period may be heavy. So plan accordingly.
Welcome to Soulcysters!

Thanks for the replies!
Yup, I think I might just wait a couple of weeks…I'm kind of scared.
Plus, I keep holding out hope that maybe AF will just come on her own…wishful thinking, I think!

Meds: 1000mg of metformin/day
Hi, this is my first post here. I quit taking the pill in June last year, and no AF since then. I started Metformin in December; it helped with the dizziness and constant hunger I had, but still no AF. Today I was prescribed Provera and Femara. I'm supposed to take Provera for 10 days, then in cd3 start with the Femara. When the Dr. explained this to me, I thought that AF would happen by the last day of the Provera, but judging by your comments here it seems that's not always the case. How long does it usually take?
Also, how do you know when to start taking it again? For some reason, that didn't occur to me today either. I've been prescribed a 3 month cycle of both meds. What are the side effects if you take it and later find you are pregnant?
With provera you usually get af after you finish taking it. For me it happens 3-4 days after, but for some longer. You count day 1 as the first day of a good bleed where you have to wear a pad/tampon. Then you take your femara as prescribe. If he is not going to monitor you with ultrasound and other test, I would ask if he could do a pregesterone test about 7 days past suspected ovulation or around cycle day 21. Those numbers should tell your Dr if you o'd. If you ovulated and you don't get prgnant then you will get a period. If no ovulation occurs then af will not come. You should take the provera after you have confirmed your not pg and start all over again. I would call your Dr and ask if he will at least check your progesterone for you. hth!
