Thumbs down here's how it worked for me...

Hi...

I was so fascinated about NOT HAVING A PERIOD from Provera, that I decided to use it. They say it takes about 6 months at the least for you to stop getting it, but I wasn't on it long enough to see if it worked for me. I was on it for about 4 months, and those were enough for me. You see, besides the wonder of not getting your period, there are quite a lot of other things that come as side effects. The ones that were most severe for me were excess hair on my face (I'd never experienced that till taking this drug), uncontrollable moodiness to extremes!!, and weight gain. I don't want to tell you what to do, but please, for yourself, realize EVERYTHING you could be getting into with Provera.

Thumbs up It worked for me

I used a seven day course of Premarin and Provera together and it stopped 14 month bleed in about five days...

The varied uses of provera still amaze me!

P.S. After the bleeding stopped, I continued the Provera for about 6 months as a maintenance drug to maintain my uterine lining (I had Hyperplaysia)...I had NO ill side effects. There are no absolutes with any drug- different people have different experiences.

Im on the provera 40mg a day.....I was on 10mg, but my goofy body decided to fight it and I started my period and had one for 10days...my IF specialist upped it to the 40mg and I have been on it since may and will continue it til August. I have the complex hyperplasia and they are using it to keep the uterine lining thin until I can go back for another biopsy. I haven't spotted or cramped or started since May, so I would definately say it works...I havent' been moody or noticed anything weird with it, but it really does depend on the person, on what it does to you...

MRucker-

I just wanted to give you a litte encouragement- I went through the same thing- had an endometrial biopsy- was dxd with hyperplaysia- cells 1 step below pre-cancerous...went on the Provera...went back in 3 months for a follow up biopsy- no signs of abnormality- lining was fine, hyperplaysia was gone. The Provera worked!! (YAY! )

I just wanted to share my success with you...since your situation is so similar- good luck, cysta!!

My regular doc put me on the provera to stop my period since I'd been bleeding for 3 months. The 10 mg she put me on stopped it in 2 days, but.....I was supposed to continue taking it for 10 days. By the 4th day I was sooo moody. The worst was the rage...I was mad at everyone. Almost hit my 12 year old sister in law. So the Dr. told me to just take half a pill for 2 more days then stop it. As soon as I stopped taking the pill, I started bleeding again. This time though it was 10 X worse and I had terrible cramps. Called the Dr. again. She put me back on the Provera. Didn't help, mood swings and rage came back. So she sent me to the ER. ER sent me to a gyn. Gyn diagnosed me with PCOS after reviewing my labs, US and hx. So he put me on the OVCON 2X a day. Well, hasn't worked yet...still bleeding. Well, that got kind of long didn't it. Sorry. Anyway, the provera didn't work for me. I guess it's just an individual thing.
Good luck!

I take it for that all the time. I have continual spotting from about CD36 on that does not end until I take Provera. I take a 10 mg 10 day course. The spotting stops around my 5th pill and then about 2-10 days after my last Provera pill, I get a regular full flow AF.

Provera is supposed to provide your body with the lacking progesterone. You can bleed if your lining and estrogen builds up.

Question Provera to START a period

Now I'm curious - I was prescribed Provera last week - just 10mg for 7days to actually trigger my period.
I've not had one in 11 months which according to my GP is unhealthy and a woman should have at least 4 in 12 months.

I posted a message earlier in Newbies - as I've finished the 7 day course and not a drop!!
I was asking if it should happen during the 7days course of drugs or if I should give it a few days grace to happen.

CAN PROVERA be used to start periods/?????

Default I've used it

The second time I used Provera to induce my period, it came for almost a month. The Dr. then gave me provera to stop it. I never understood how that worked, but it did!

Default I'm using Motrin

I'm having the same problem... I've been having this light bleeding since May. I went to my doctor today and she told me to take Motrin for 2 days (4 tablets 3 times a day). I've never heard of taking Motrin to stop bleeding. Anyone tried this before?

Ohhh! I have been searching and searching for someone who is having this problem too! OB prescribed Prometrium to start my cycle and AF has been here for 22 days now. He said he isn't concerned but I am! I have a couple of questions - if anyone can help it would be soooo appreciated

Okay, I am ttc cd22 6dpo. If I am still having this "heavy spotting" is there any chance of pg? If not, can I try the Motrin thing or should I wait? Is Provera safe to take to stop this if I am pg? Is it standard practice that they don't do anything until you have been bleeding for 30+ days?

TIA!

Teresa

had an endometrial biopsy- was dxd with hyperplaysia- i am on 3 rounds of Provera for the next three months. I am supposed to go back in 3 months for a follow up biopsy- my question is about sex. they wont put me on bcp untill the hyperplaysia is gone and i understand that, and we will be using condoms. but my man is worried that he might hurt me more by having sex during this time that i am hopefully getting rid of the hyperplaysia. am i going to basically on a period for the next 3 months? sorry to sound so dumb but this is new to me.

See my response to this same question in "Do You Have This Problem"...wanted to respond, but didn't want to answer the same thing twice.
