Hi I am taking provera every other month, Someone in a chat room told me that they started taking Vitex and Dong Quai on the day that AF started and she was able to ovulate and get pregnant the next month.
I take provera for 5 days usually 11 thru the 16 and usually i start on the 20th.
IS it safe to take the herbs with the provera probably still in my system???

i wouldn't be taking them together but the vitex and Dong Quai would be taken 4 to 5 days after stopping the provera. ALso what is the beginning dosage for those two herbs

I'm sorry.. I don't seem to understand why you are taking provera for days 11-16.. am I misunderstanding you?? Because provera is a progesterone supplement... by doing this.. you are supressing ovulation.. is this really what you are trying to do?? usually provera is taken post ovulation.. to help maintain a pregnancy, or to bring on AF...
Im on provera because of lack of AF, she puts me on that from the 11th to the 16th to bring on af, otherwise i dont get it. I was wondering if i could take Dong Quai and Vitex when i got AF which is usually 5 days after stopping the provera. SOmeone told me if you do this then you will ovulate the next month. I dont know if it will work or not, im just not sure if i am ovulating I am using bbt, and trying to monitor cm but i dont know what i am looking for as far as that goes. I had a couple of days where the CM looked like eggwhite with no temp rise afterward then i had a couple of days where the cm was really thick and yellowish white.

What I was saying is that I also have taken provera to bring on AF.. I was questioning the dates that you were taking it... usually it is given from day 15, or after O till day 26 or 27....
In a "normal" cycle.. the progesterone surge happens AFTER O! not before it.. so it doesn't make sense to take progesterone BEFORE you would typically o... it is an end of the cycle supplement...
And, yes.. provera is used to bring on AF.. but it is taken at the END of the cycle.. not at the beginning, or middle... Please contact your doctor about this because I think that she either misinformed you, or you misunderstood her instructions....
Now im confused lol she never told me when to take it on the 10th of december she gave me the prescription and told me to start it immediately because she wanted to see if i got af by my next appt which was on the 31st so thats why i took it the 11-16 she gave me enough pills to last 5 days taking them twice a day once with breakfast and once for dinner.
When i went on the 31st she gave me a prescription for 5 more months but told me to skip january to see if af came on its own because id lost 20 pounds and then if it didnt take a pregnancy test in Febuary and start it again. She never actually told me what day to start it. Just told me to take it. So when am i supposed to take it? the 15th through the 26th???
I guess she just figured that if i kept dropping weight like i had the first 3 weeks that it would come on its own but it hasnt Yet and now im not sure when to take the medication.

They usually give you a 10 day supply.. 1 pill...once a day... for 10 days. for me.. since I have been TTC, I would always wait longer because I was waiting to see if I had ovulated.. If I didn't ovulate by day 22, then I would take the provera for 10 days.. I think it's always best to take it AFTER you ovulate.. unless you aren't ovulating at all..
but, my rule was always, if I didn't ovulate by CD22.. then I knew that there was probably no way I would get AF on my own... so, then I used the provera..
But, taking it the way you were, you would have never ovulated, because the progesterone was suppressing ovulation...
Well I got a 10 day supply so maybe instead of taking it twice a day ill try taking it once a day i dont know whether i am ovulating or not i dont think i am thats why i wanted to try the Dong Quai and Vitex cause someone said if you start taking it the day you get AF and keep taking it then youd ovulate the next month. I dont know though. I just want to know if i am ovulating, i mean i guess i shouldnt worry about it right now but i just want to see. I am getting ovulation predictors so that next month i will be able to check.

If your dr. has rx'ed Provera twice a day, then I would say yes. What exactly do you mean by "safe" though?? Is it harmful, no. Is it going to interact with other meds?? Possibly.
