Default Provera vs Prometrium

Has anyone ever used prometrium? i have used provera 3 times before to bring on af but my dr prescribed prometium this time. does anyone know what the difference between the two is? and why he would have switched?

I used provera the first time I skipped AF, and after that, my doctor put me on prometrium. She said the reason she switched was that it's safer to be taking prometrium in case you become pregnant. The only difference I saw between the two is that I take prometrium at night (it can make you dizzy and sleepy), and that I have to take it for a longer amount of time than the provera. Hope this helps!

gREAT! that does help. did it take the same amount of time to bring on af when you used prometrium?

I was only on provera once, but I think the wait time for AF was similar. Now that I've been on prometrium for 6+ months, it's very consistent with the amount of time it takes for AF.

I have been taking Prometrium to kick off AF
Dr put me on 200mg and told me to take for 12 days. I usually start AF on day 10 and then quick taking it.
___
I have also just complete my first round of clomid which I took on CD 5-10...
I don't think I am pregnant b/c the tests are negative but I just had to go into the lab today for blood pregnancy test. Dr wanted to make sure I wasn't preg before starting me on my next round of prometrium.

I was so glad to see this post! I've taken Provera 3 times and was curious as to why this Dr put me on Prometrium... not to mention the fact that it cost $54 with my insurance as opposed to the $12 Provera cost me. I haven't started it yet, but am nervous about all the new meds I'm about to take (Bravelle and Novarel). Provera made me crampy and very moody. From what I've read it looks like Prometrium may not do that to me. I hope that's true!
