Question Provera- what do I do if it doesn't work?

This was also posted on the TTC board, so sorry if you're reading it twice, I just really need some info... thanks!

I went through a round of Provera (10 days long) to induce AF. I took the last pill 10 days ago. Since then, I had very very light spotting for the past 3 days, but nothing today at all, not even anything in my CM which was white (I know, TMI, sorry). I have a sinking suspicion the Provera isn't going to work. My RE didn't tell me what to do if the Provera didn't work, and the packaging says it should bring on AF within 3-10 days of the last pill. Here are my questions:

1) Should I call my RE now (since I spotted a little and stopped) to see what she wants to do next, or should I wait until 14 days past when I took the last pill? I don't know why I'm thinking 14 days is important.

2) Has anyone been through this? Does anyone know what the next step is here? If she puts me on another 10 days round of Provera I'm really not going to be too happy, 'cause the side effects suck and I HATE ALL THIS WAITING. I'm on CD 52, I started the Provera on CD 36, and I feel like I'm never going to get AF.

I'm really frustrated. Any answers would be wonderful. Thanks in advance...

It can take 14 days to start AF. There are different strengths of provera. She could put you on a stronger strength, she could put you on prometrium, and she should test your DHEA levels (estrogen) if your estrogen is too low it wont allow progesterone to work to bring on AF.

Prometrium tends to have less side effects at least for me it did

Have you tested again for pregnancy, usually the doctor will ask you to take an HPT just in case.

Yep, I've tested for pregnancy a few times, about a week apart in each case. Also, I didn't O this month and did get AF last month after I O'ed (a rebound ovulation after coming off BCP). Plus we haven't had sex in about 3 weeks, so let me tell you, the chances are infinitely slim.

It seems weird to me that I'd spot (very lightly) for 3 days, then go back to normal, without AF coming then. If AF was going to show, wouldn't she do it after a bout of spotting? Isn't that what spotting is?

Hi Rachel,

I actually hit the 14 day mark of the Provera NOT working for me yesterday. Today I am going in for an Ultrasound to see what is up. If my Dr. had not suggested that, I would have. I don't want to take anything else without knowing what it looks like in there first... let me know how it goes for you!

For anyone who is curious, here's my update- I called the RE's office and got a call back from the nurse. She said that my lining at my last u/s was very thin, so they consider my spotting to be AF (you could have fooled me!) and they told me that Monday was CD1 and I should start my Clomid today.

Yippee!! They're not sure exactly why my lining was thin, if it was from the BCP or something else, but they didn't seem too worried about it.

Yay, I'm happy
