Default prozac - increased anxiety?

Hi-

Does anyone know if prozac increases anxiety? My doctor prescribed it for anxiety and so far I have been on it only 5 days, but I am still an anxious mess. I can't figure out if it is just my regular anxiety (which caused me to have to take meds) or is it the prozac making it worse?

I'm so confused and so tired of the constant state of anxiety/panic!!

Thanks in advance!
Sara

I'm on Prozac and it will take about 2 weeks to fully get into your system so I wouldn't expect it to help for about that long. I am on it for irritability and it really helps. I tried going off of it once and I was a wreck, gettting angry about anything and everything.
Hopefully it will help your anxiety, my DH is on Cymbalta for anxiety and I know some people who are on Lexapro and have had great results with that also.
Good luck

I had a really bad reaction to Lexapro where I had awful panic attacks (thats what I was on it for) worse than off it and I was told to stop right away and switched meds

i have tried prozac several times in the past. for me, it did noticably increase my anxiety levels. the first time on it, i switched to something else relatively quickly because i was jittery, irritable and having panic attacks. the second time around, i was also on klonopin for my anxiety so i was able to tolerate the prozac longer BUT as i came out of my depression, i stopped the prozac because it was giving me the jittery, anxious feeling again.

Both Paxil & Prozac heightened my anxiety so I needed to stop using them. It is a chemical reaction to the medication. You do need to give yourself a couple of weeks to see if the s/e is temporary, but after that contact your doc for advice, more than likely they will change the med.
Good luck, how is it going for you now?
